Juliet Capulet Character Analysis Essay

“A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life.” Romeo and Juliet, a tragic play written by William Shakespeare, tells a tragic love story of forbidden love between two passionate adolescents. Their feuding families spread hate throughout Verona, Italy causing multiple untimely deaths. Juliet Capulet’s character develops greatly in the Romeo and Juliet play. She is pressured by her very controlling parents, has hatred surrounding her between two families, and has lost the Nurse’s support which initiates her take matters into her own hand to fight for her marriage with Romeo.

Juliet Capulet’s character changes because of she’s  pressured by her controlling parents. In act 3 scene 5 Capulet says “ Soft, take me with you, take me with you, wife. How, will she none? Doth she not give us thanks? Is she not proud? Doth she not count her blessed, Unworthy as she is, that we have wrought so worthy a gentleman to be her bride?” Capulet is in disbelief with Juliets actions towards the marriage. He knows she is always so obedient and seeing her acting so disobedient surprises him. “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch! I tell thee what: get thee to Church o’ Thursday, Or never after look me in the face. Speak not. Reply not. Do not answer me. My fingers itch.—Wife, we scarce though us blest That God had lent us but this only child, But now I see this is one is one too much And that we have a curse in having her. Out of her hilding!” Act 3 Scene.  Lord Capulet demands that Juliet do as commanded and marry Paris or he’ll disown her. Juliet begs to avoid this hasty marriage. They both get into an awful fight which pushes Juliet over the edge. Juliets constant pressure leads her to do unusual things.

Juliet Capulet has negativity and hatred surrounding her because of two feuding families. Friar Lawrence agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet in Act 2, Scene 5, in the hopes of uniting the Montague and Capulet families. She has to marry the love of her life, Romeo, in secret because of of their feuding families. 2.6: Romeo and Juliet meet at Friar Laurence's cell and get married. When Romeo and Juliet get married ready can’t celebrate like a normal couple because no one can know about their relationship. Their families hatred for each other causes Romeo and Juliet to force to keep their relationship a secret.

Juliet losses all support from people because of her marriage with Romeo. Act 3 Scene 5 Nurse says “This is what I have to say: Romeo has been banished. And it's a sure thing that he will never come back to challenge  you. If he does come back,  he'll  have to sneak back undercover. Then, since things are the way they are, I think the best thing to do is to marry the count. Oh, he's a lovely gentleman! Romeo's a dish­ cloth compared to him. Madam, an eagle does not have eyes as green, as quick, and as fair as  the eyes of Paris.” The Nurse responds to Juliet by saying that it’s better if she marries Paris because he’d be a better husband. In act 3 Scene 5 the nurse continues saying “Curse my very heart, but I think you should be happy in this second marriage, because it's better than your first.  Even if it's not better, your first marriage is over. Or if Romeo is  as  good as Paris, Romeo doesn't live here, so you don't get to enjoy him.” The Nurse tells Juliet that maybe this is a good thing. That she should marry Paris and that he’s way better than the love of Juliets life, Romeo. Juliet is distraught because the nurse stops supporting her in her marriage with Romeo.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story between “two star-crossed lovers.” Both Romeo and Juliet are so in love and passionate for each other that they end up dying for each other. Juliets character develops at the end of the play due to the pressure given by her very controlling parents, the hatred surrounding her between two feuding families, and the loss of the Nurse’s support which initiates her take matters into her own hand to fight for her marriage with Romeo. Juliets overall development and death should be blamed on the people that surrounded her. She starts off being an innocent immature child that had not experienced anything for herself. When she finally experiences something for herself, instead of getting support from the people she loves, she gets betrayal. This causes her to finally kill herself for love to escape the hatred that was surrounding her.
