Do you want 12 strangers that have no experience deciding your freedom? That doesn’t sound right to me. First, the British settlers brought the jury system with them from England, more than 400 years ago, so it’s pretty outdated. Next, do you think the jury system is a good idea? I think the jury system is a bad idea because I wouldn’t want 12 random people that may have no experience being in court, and they don’t want to be there. An experienced judge makes more sense, since it’s his job he will have learned about it more and he will want to be there.

First, one good thing about the jury system is that normal citizens can get involved with the judicial branch. Second, it allows self-governance which lets us have civic participation, “Observer of the American jury system has remarked on its ability to elevate ordinary citizens into self-governors.” Next, many people benefit from the jury system, jurors get life experience, defendants get judged by their peers, the American Democracy as a whole benefits from the people’s participation.  Finally, it encourages our democracy even more, if we didn’t have the jury system we would be controlled by a few people that have all the power, but they could be good too.

First, one bad thing about the jury system is that not all people want to be there at the court, so they will do anything to get out of their fast. Second, the jurors might not even be focusing on the trial, “ Cartoon 1,” this leads to the juror not knowing what’s going on, so the person being trialed could get a false accusation. Lastly, if a guy has tattoos and looks shady people are going to think he’s suspicious, but if it’s a normal-looking guy he wouldn’t be suspicious. Basically judging someone’s physical appearance which is not right and doesn’t make sense. “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

First, one experienced person who likes their job, will do better than 12 random strangers found off the street with no experience in court. There is one main reason people don’t want to switch to this it is called, “Sacred cow,”(It is something that people don’t like to criticize). People sacred cow the jury system, because America has been using it since the first settlers arrived and don’t want to disrespect them. Next, would you want to be sent to jail for someone being inexperienced with the law, or switch to one person that is experienced with the law and will most likely have a better chance to understand your case better? That’s what I thought.

In the end, the cons outweigh the pros in this situation, so do you want to keep it or remove it after all of these facts. It’s up to you for this one, I hoped you learned something after all of this. Please do decide though. The end.
