As I sit in my room all alone in my classes doing busy work I listen closely to this one specific lyric of the song “Let it Go”---And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all. “I need to stop letting my fears take control of me and be in control of my life”--I thought as I reevaluate my past actions. The song “Let it Go" by Idina Menzel illustrates a deprecating but also empowering mood with strong wording in the lyrics, an idiom and hyperboles.

Idina Menzel’s song emphasizes that no matter how isolated you are in the world you need to always be there for yourself and not let the past dominate you. For example, Menzel writes “I don’t care what they’re going to say let the storm rage on” which symbolizes that she will let her true self go (as it says in the title) no matter what others say. A feeling of enlightenment is bestowed upon the listeners because the song is essentially saying be yourself no matter what, let all of you out.

Another special thing about this song is that Menzel uses an idiom and hyperboles to go in depth with the lyrics.”Let it go” was repeated multiple times in the song to spotlight letting her true self show. Along with a hyperbole that is “Turn away and slam the door” which is an expressive way of saying “leaving behind”. The next one is “ the perfect girl is gone”, even though she was never perfect she pretended as so in front of people, now she does not have the pressure to do so. She paints an extravagant picture of what her song is trying to portray, that is unleashing your unhinged self and you don’t need to put u a front for anyone, ever.
