Dear President Biden,

Raising the minimum wage to $15 in the United States would help many issues such as housing, the economy, and college fees.

As a student who has been asked many times questions about their plans for college, I can tell you that it is not easy to give those answers, but what makes it more difficult to plan for college, isn't exactly the planning, usually, it's the money. In fact, reportedly 65% of college graduates have student debt. Only some of these expenses included; paying for dorms, food and gas, and of course, tuition. Another piece of evidence is that 43% of college students work full time and 81% have part time jobs. I have three older siblings who all work part-time jobs, and I know for a fact that all those work hours aren't going to make nearly enough money to clear all of their college debt.

Everyone has seen a homeless person wandering around now and then, and maybe you’ve seen people give them a buck or two, but is that actually going to help them live in the long run? If we were to raise the minimum wage it could help those people, and it could help stop homelessness from happening in the future. If housing was more affordable, the rent would be lower, there would be fewer evictions, and there would be less homeless citizens.

The economy is important, and because of things like COVID 19, 10.1 million people (6.3%) have become unemployed, hurting the economy. However, if the minimum wage were to increase, people would feel safer to spend money, boosting customer demand, ending in businesses hiring more people, and improving productivity.

To summarize, raising the minimum wage would help this generation and the ones that follow to create healthy communities and boost the economy to better the lives of Americans.

Sincerely,

xx.
