Life on Earth Environmental Essay Example

One African elephant is killed by poachers every 15 minutes, (“World Elephant Day”). Humans are polluting our planet’s air and soil causing climate change and dirty water. Every day we are driving more and more animals into extinction. We are ignoring what is happening around us as we carelessly destroy the world we used to know. Therefore, the needs of animals and the planet are more important than the needs of people. 

Since we as humans rely on animals and the planet to survive, we need to put their needs first before ours. Al Gore said during his Nobel Speech “We are recklessly burning and clearing our forests and driving more and more species into extinction,” (Gore). Humans make up a mere 0.01 of life on Earth, (Ritchie). Instead of protecting nature and its abundant life, we are hurting it. Everyday we dump more waste into landfills, emit more pollution into the atmosphere, and tear down habitats that animals need to survive.

On the other hand, many believe that the needs of people are more important than animals and the planet. Whereas this might seem like it is a good argument, it is false. Animals and plants account for nearly all of life on Earth. A.D. Williams once said “When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend,” (“Quotesgram”). Even though we might be superior, we need to realize that there are other living organisms on Earth. Instead of taking nature and animals for granted, we need to help protect them.

In conclusion, humans might be a dominant species, but that does not mean that they are the only ones that matter. We destroy nature every day and take advantage of its resources. Humans depend on animals and vegetation to survive, so we need to stop killing them off. Some people might say that people are more important, but this statement is invalid because humans make up a small percentage of the abundant life on Earth. We need to be careful of what we do in our lives and help preserve the animals and nature around us. The planet and the life living on it are more important than humans.
