Macbeth: Differences Between the Play and Film Essay Example

There are several powerful scenes throughout the film which demonstrate a strong sense of imagery to the audience. The vivid murders and fights that are not presented in the play are presented in the film. When Macbeth kills King Duncan (Macbeth), the murder was told in the play but not the process of how it happened to know how impressive it could be. In Macbeth’s play when Macbeth hallucinates a dagger and talks to himself, and he says: "While I stay here talking, Duncan lives. The more I talk, the more my courage cools'' (Macbeth V.ii.34-55). The play does not describe how Macbeth kills King Duncan, so it lets the audience be thinking because killing King Duncan could be frightening to Macbeth, even though it is all of his plans otherwise he is expressed as courageous. But in the movie the murder of King Duncan, shows how courageous, walking into Duncan’s room and stab him so many times until dying (Kurzel). This actually creates an image of how bloody the murder process is and how brutal Macbeth is. It makes a good adaptation because it does a good job connecting the emotions of the mood to the audience. The connection of emotions from film to the audience is really important for a good adaptation. 

The theme of Children adds to the film and makes it a unique factor for the film.  Children are not found in the original play of Macbeth. In the play, it starts with the three witches, which makes it a good start, however, the play does not explain why Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are described as ambitious to do anything in obtaining the throne. But in the adaptation film, which starts with Macbeth’s child’s funeral, the child is surrounded by people and it shows how Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's hearts are broken. Children are the most special and precious gifts for parents. The film expresses the child's death as a reason why may Macbeth and Lady Macbeth be mentally damaged, especially Macbeth, and which causes him to do terrible and impulsive things later on in the film. It makes it a good adaptation from starting the film with their son's death because it helps the audience to understand the concept better and make logic to the conflicts the film performs later. Reasons behind conflicts are the key to make a film make sense and understandable.  

In conclusion, the adaptation film Macbeth explores by highlighting powerful scenes and supplements a new concept, theme of children and impacts to Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the film. This Macbeth film adaptation does an incredible job since important moments unexplained in the original play are shown in the play, and it provides the audience nova concepts by the theme of children.
