Freedom is never given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed. Martin Luther King was the leader of the civil rights movement. King helped organize the first major protest of the African American civil rights movement. King is known for his “I Have A Dream” speech, in which he spoke of his dream of the United States that is void of segregation and racism. Martin Luther King is one of the most important influencers in America to this day. King wanted to stop segregation in a non-violent way which took lots of patience, courage, and perseverance.

Martin Luther King was one of the most powerful influencers for the civil rights movement. King was one of the most powerful leaders of the civil rights movement. King prodded the Black church into social action by criticizing its emphasis on the hereafter instead of the here and now; it was a call to service that was not lost on the teenage King. King was a Baptist minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States. According to Lewis, “His leadership was fundamental to that movement’s success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States”. Lewis explains how King’s success impacted America. King was a leader and a role model to the civil rights movement. King led the civil rights movement to the end of segregation. King led nonviolent protests. And explained what he always wanted for America. King’s accomplishments are taught to American children of all races. Dr. King was one of the driving forces behind the March for Jobs and Freedom, commonly known as the “March on Washington”.  According to The King Center, “Dr. King is widely regarded as America's preeminent advocate of nonviolence and one of the greatest nonviolent leaders in world history”. King was a very strong leader and advocate. King allowed for a lot of opportunities in America for people of color. King allowed them to get the freedom and opportunities they deserved. King expresses that we all should be free and unite as one.

Martin Luther King’s belief in freedom, non-violence, and peace carried through influence all over the world. King has influenced many Americans through his works. King has a national holiday dedicated to him that they had to fight to get. According to Blakemore, “On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the entire nation pauses in remembrance of a civil rights hero”. On MLK Day we all pause and give respect and remember what King has done for our country and community. King unified people together. King’s belief in nonviolence and peace has inspired many examples of civil disobedience. King never allowed for fear to triumph. According to Gunner, “King believed that nonviolence was an active rejection of the cruelty and tyranny of an opposing class, not just the avoidance of repercussions''. Because of Martin Luther King America came to understand the power of nonviolent protest. King created the Civil Rights Act which banned discrimination in the workforce and public accommodations. King’s belief in nonviolence and peace has inspired many examples of civil disobedience.

While Martin Luther King was the leader of the civil rights movement King accomplished many things. King ended segregation in the South, King created nonviolent protests, King united the American people together. While King had his platform you can clearly see that there is a difference. King has influenced America so much while he was a part of the civil rights movement. Following King’s leadership, he has made freedom and peace throughout America.
