I chose Medical Technology because I find diagnostics fascinating, and it fits my personality well. Going into college, I knew that I was interested in the medical field, but I also knew my limits. There are aspects of better-known medical careers that I was hesitant about, but I knew that I wanted to be in a position where I was able to help people when they needed it. I discovered the Medical Technology program during my first semester of college and was quickly interested. This profession is integral to healthcare, but in a role that is very much behind the scenes. As I further researched this profession, the better it fit me and my personality, and as I have started taking specific courses, my fascination increased, learning the how and why behind diseases.

I am a great fit for this career for the following reasons: I want to help people, I need to be challenged, and am constantly looking to learn more. Being in this field will allow me to continue learning and applying that knowledge. I am very much a problem solver; identifying unknown organisms in microbiology and mycology lab has become my favorite type of assignment due to the frustration and satisfaction that goes along with properly identifying an organism. As a medical technologist, I will be able to do this daily.

Currently, I have short term and long term academic and professional goals. The short term is to be accepted into a clinical program and graduate with this degree. Long term, after settling into this career, I hope to continue my education and specialize in a specific area. Currently, I am most drawn to Microbiology, but there are so many aspects of Medical Technology that I have yet to learn about. As such, Microbiology may eventually be replaced with a new favorite.
