Misogyny in Hamlet Essay Sample

Throughout history, women are portrayed to be impotent and inferior to men. In William Shakespeare's “Hamlet”, women are treated differently from males. Women in Hamlet are conventionally authoritavily mandated around and treated as if they can't be trusted. Women are additionally optically discerned as lascivious in Hamlet.    

The two female characters in hamlet, Gertrude, and Ophelia are put through misogyny which stays prevalent throughout the story. Postmortem of king hamlet, Gertrude, queen of Denmark and hamlets mother, got with hamlets uncle, Claudius virtually immediately after. It was never disclosed why she got with him nor if she kenned of the fact that her incipient husband, Claudius, killed king hamlet. Due to hamlets obsessiveness over women, he surmised the espousement is due to concupiscence. I believe that Gertrude was backed into a corner and had no cull because since king hamlet is dead, she most likely held little to zero puissance, making it likely that she would be coerced into an espousement with a different king or potent person.  

Ophelia, hamlets doter, daughter of Polonius, and sister of Laertes, is perpetually manipulated by men throughout the story. She is inculpable and discombobulated and just endeavoring to stay staunch to her father and doter, hamlet. But they don’t care and utilize her as they please. Her father and Claudius end up utilizing her in their orchestration to spy on hamlet and unearth the secret abaft his madness. Polonius, believing hamlets madness is tied to Ophelia, tells her to not verbalize with him along with returning his gifts and she accedes. Later on when she is returning the gifts and hamlet goes off on her telling her, “Get thee to a nunnery! Why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners”. And Polonius and Claudius spy on the whole thing.                 

In conclusion, women are portrayed to be impotent and inferior to men in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Hamlet is set in a misogynistic world where women are conventionally manipulated and have little to no verbally express.
