There are numerous short films out in the world that convey deep sentimental connection to our past but there are a few films that require no words to leave you in tears.  The creators of Bao and One Small Step demonstrated a similar message that shows the association between parents and children . Although sharing, these short films share the same message of learning how to appreciate one’s parents' love but at the same time exemplify differences  through sociological, historical, and viewer’s point of view. 

Contrasting historical influences from the creator’s own childhood by demonstrating detailed architecture from historical points in time. Based on these detailed images, the reader concludes the time period for both films was set in modern times. This is evident in One Small Step due to the cramped neighborhoods, concrete sidewalks, and glass modernized office buildings (One Small Step 6:03-7:40). The creator used this as a common and relatable setting in order to relate to its viewers by reflecting similar memories the creator had growing up into adulthood in the 21st century. For example, the film shows the protagonist walking down the same neighborhood and stairwell without greeting her father. The repetition to inform the reader of the current setting. Therefore, causing the reader to see the repetition of events in time through the aging building as the protagonist gets older (One Small Step 2:20-3:10). Furthermore, it shows a subtle time progression of growing up which reflects the everyday moments of triumph and struggle with one’s loved one that reflect the overall theme of the modern generation taking one’s parents for granted while pursuing a dream. This recurring historical theme and overall theme can not only be seen in One Small Step but in Bao's short film as well. The reader spies the same building progression but at the same time also spies the differences in which the story is seen from the parent's perspective. Through the film, we see lower-upper middle-class architecture, the protagonist's home in a rising neighborhood with everyday transportation buses, and small-town supermarkets(Bao 00:47-01:00). Even though it's told from the perspective of the parents, the modern time architecture of the parent generation seems slightly older. The creator used the setting to his advantage of showing common places such as the supermarket, park, and the own design of his home to symbolize his everyday life. The setting is used differently from one another: it sets the tone, affecting the behavior of protagonists by making the events symbolic and imposing strong emotions, portraying how the characters lived. After carefully analyzing the historical context by using architecture found in One Small Step and Bao lude that there exists historical points but also sociological differences.

Another difference between the films is the sociological perspective portrayed in the films. In terms of the sociological perspective as viewed in the short films, One Small Step and Bao,diffincerate in economic states. Beginning with One Small Step, the viewer follows the storyline of a young girl from childhood to adulthood. The young girl, the protagonist, is preoccupied by her studies and scarcely appreciates her father. The viewer is able to capture a  few scenes in which her father works endless nights in his shoe repair shop in order to assist his daughter’s dream of becoming an astronaut. That being said, its revealed money, especially social class, plays an important role throughout the whole film. For example, when the protagonist's father stays up late in his shoe repair shop, though the protagonist is unaware of her father working late, this is directly related and connects to the everyday children who are oblivious of their parents (One small step 2:49-2:53).  Money could have only done so much for the protagonist, but the viewer catches her assiduity for hard work. Furthermore, we can see different ideas found in the short film Bao, which is shot from the parent’s perspective. At the beginning of the film we notice that the protagonist (mother)  suffers from loneliness in various different ways and in order to bring herself happiness, we see her taking care of the dumpling as if he was her son. That being said, the protagonist nourishes and takes care of the dumpling, who is a representation of her own living son. When Bao ( the dumpling) was younger in the film, the viewer can see anthropomorphization. This can be explained as personification that the viewers enjoy. A relationship develops as Bao (the dumpling son) grows physically up like a boy. As the film progresses, we see the dumpling baby grow up and eventually starts to ignore the mother by going out with friends instead. The protagonist cannot stand her dumpling son leaving, so, therefore, she eats him (Bao 2:15-2:30). This can be interpreted as misleading. She ate him to symbolize this as a form of wanting him to stay with her and not grow up. This is one way we can see the sociological perspective in Bao. Furthermore, we come across money once again in this short film. Money does not play an important aspect during the film, we see Bao’s mother purchasing food instead of other things to show her love to her son (Bao 2:55-3:32). She spent most of her time shopping for groceries as a way to connect with her son because for her that was how she was shown, love. The creator uses food in a proficient way to demonstrate comfort and a tying relationship between mother and son. The sociological perspective of money and wealth(money) portrays a strong sociological perspective because the viewer is able to interpret a different perspective. 

Lastly, the short films illustrate two different perspectives of a child growing up, and a parent raising their kid demonstrates the same message. The short films demonstrate in a similar way that at a certain age adolescents are either too busy with school or with their friends. Through rejection such as not eating with them for dinner or closing the door on their face

Despite sharing the same message, both short films differ in terms of historical, sociological, and viewer's point of view. Historical analysis in the form of architecture to its relation to the setting and influences of protagonist actions. A Sociological illustration such as money and its portrayal in the theme. Lastly, we view the perspective of viewers and how it can make them question their actions towards their parent's feelings.
