My Improvement in Writing Experience Essay

Writing is my weakness. It’s tedious and it makes me overthink things to make a good  essay. This is why I consider myself more as a reader than a writer. But when thinking of the kind of writing I have done and the way I approached these writing assignments, I would describe myself as both a researcher and an evolving kind of writer.

I consider myself as a researcher when it comes to writing because I found myself usually writing based on articles that I know I can provide evidence because for me, it makes my writing stronger. However, sometimes it needs to be put well, and organized. I tend to include information that is not relevant to the main subject.  Though, I try my best to put some of my personalities whenever I write. Also, I notice that I tend to repeat the same words a lot in my writing. Maybe it’s because I use a simpler way of writing so I seem to use all the same words. I know that I don’t have a very wide vocabulary, so reading articles that is related to the topic helps me a lot to put my ideas together. I’m trying my best to change it and broaden my vocabulary. I also like seeing and reading the perspectives of other writers or people about a certain topic. Though sometimes I think that I don’t express my thoughts as effectively as I would like; I get the point across, however, I don’t like how I make it the way I wanted it to be. I constantly feel I lack a bridge between my thoughts and my words and to me my writing feels average.

On the other hand, since my writing is not as good as I think it is, I consider myself as an evolving writer. I think that I have a very poor writing skills. However, I know that writing is a progressive skill that you can get better over time. The big mistake that I do when I write is I don’t usually proof-read. When I finish a piece, and read it, that’s where I usually say, “Oh darn, I should’ve proof-read this first,” but it’s too late. And this leads to finding myself never completely satisfied with what I write, most of the time. I think that finishing an essay and just getting a “good grade” or even a “passing grade” is good enough for me. I think that’s the mistake I should never do, but still keep doing it. In addition to this, I try my best to convey my thoughts and feelings and the logic behind it to the person reading. I like being able to make my writing something other people can connect to, or relate to in some way by generalizing the thoughts and experiences I’m writing about.  

With this being said, I feel like I have a lot of scope to improve my writing skills. As I continue to write and learn, I know that I can still improve my skills and get better at writing.
