Leadership: “the art of motivating a group of people to act toward achieving a common goal”. I can be a leader because I execute standout qualities: integrity, communication, inspiration, and positivity in my everyday life. Enhancing my passion for dance, this is my second consecutive year as an assistant teacher at my dance studio, Dance 2000. I share my knowledge with an abundance of kind-hearted students ranging from the age of 4 to 13. I understand how to adapt to the needs and responsibilities of each age group. This position not only allows me to spread my love for dance to my students but challenges me to be the best role model I can be. While teaching dance during the school year, I occupy my summers by working at the Scotch Plains Parks & Recreation summer camp as a counselor. I am looking forward to my third consecutive summer working in such a fun and positive environment.

As an incoming freshman, I was part of the Small Fry camp staff, where we provide a fun and learning space for  3-5 year olds to be themselves. Something I enjoy about this camp is evaluations; this is where the directors of the camp assess your performance throughout the summer. They want to see if you attained what it means to be an exceptional counselor who applies those standout qualities I have mentioned above. At the end of my first summer working there, I received a perfect evaluation. Due to the pandemic occurring last summer, the directors only handpicked counselors whom they thought would still maintain that same work ethic, and fortunately, they picked me. The camp was modified last summer, and I was part of the staff for teaching kids how to play basketball, pickleball, and help improve their speed with the Run Club; these kids ranged from 3rd to 8th graders. This position has helped me grow in my leadership by learning everlasting lessons and skills, for example, teamwork and determination.

My other leadership experiences are being part of the student council for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School student council as a cabinet member for my second year, babysitting children for various families throughout the years, and I am a leader for Pray and Play at my church which is explained in the service response. Also, I was one of the Studio Dancers of the Year in 2019 for a famous dance competition, Tremaine. My dance teachers decided who displayed what it meant to have a positive attitude and who can lead the team. Since I was the oldest on the competition team last year, I was the student leader; I made sure everyone was having fun yet doing their job as a team member.

Overall with my multiple experiences, I demonstrated how those taught me the roles of leadership.
