Although I love gathering around the television with my family and watching the annual ball drop in New York City, I want to invent a tradition of my own. Whether you’re a teenager or a parent or a busy worker, 2020 has been so stressful. Because of the pandemic, it’s a whole other level of change that leaves a lot of room for mistakes, stress, and regret. This tradition will help relieve all of that.

This tradition is not too hard to do. All you need is a glass plate and a sharpie. You might be thinking, “What on Earth would you need a glass plate for?” On this glass plate, write down everything that has been bothering you throughout the year that has been stuck lingering in the back of your head. Once everything is written down, smash the plate. Once you do this, the dark cloud that has been looming over you, will all of a sudden disintegrate.

This tradition is meaningful to me because it’s like a stress reliever. I’m sure that you have made a lot of mistakes in this past year and have been making resolutions to grow as a person and improve yourself for yourself and your friends and family. By smashing a plate with all your thoughts on it, it’s like you’re throwing all of those negative thoughts away and gaining a fresh start.

All in all, I think this is a great tradition that should be practiced around the world. It’s affordable and great to relieve mistakes, stress, and regret. Just be sure to be careful and enjoy the fresh start and a happy new year!
