Many instantly feel as if they are standing in history when they visit the city park found in the heart of downtown Mobile, Alabama. Bienville Square is a peaceful and relaxing hotspot. Many local people go to the historical park to experience peace in nature. When I explored this park, I discovered myself peacefully observing my surroundings under the massive, beautiful oak trees. All types of people with all kinds of personal differences explore this park. From countless playing children to artists painting to homeless people sleeping, Bienville Square has brought eternal happiness and true peace to many people. My peaceful trip to Bienville Square not only brought back memories of my childhood but also helped me realize a lot about my local community.

When I arrived at the park, it was around lunchtime, and the gentle breeze underneath the oak trees was so nice. I was surprised that the glossy leaves were falling from the overhanging trees this early into the fall season. There was a familiar smell of freshly cut grass in the park because a city worker was trimming the surrounding fragrant grass. This Park had more than human visitors; the observed number of squirrels so carelessly roaming around was astonishing. Most of the squirrels were abnormally large and speedy as I was sure they got fed well. The young children found great interest in the squirrels. They would giggle and jump in joyous excitement each time a squirrel eagerly snatched a raw peanut from their gentle hand. These children that were once unknown strangers to each other would bond over the fierce excitement they shared; they made new friends at the park that lovely day. I had tuned out everything going on around me as I was so focused on the Children enjoying the park. Realizing all it took was some peanuts and squirrels to make these kids happy brought me ultimate joy. This reminded me of simpler times when I was a child.

I decided to get up and walk towards the huge fountain, but I discovered a magnificent pavilion. The pavilion was pearly white with beautiful black steel details. The scarlet-colored stairs on the pavilion led me to an artist peacefully painting a picture of the square. The local artist was a middle-aged male with long strawberry blonde hair. I was astounded by his painting; he must have been a very experienced artist. He seemed so relaxed, yet so focused on perfecting every specific detail of the park. He was a source of entertainment for other visitors in the park as well. His artistic talent amazed me; it made me realize how much talent my community truly has.

Before I headed home, I had decided to walk around the park one last time. This event was when I discovered the heartbreaking issues in my community. As I walked the sidewalk closest to the restaurants, I noticed an extreme amount of trash surrounding the overflowing trash cans. The amount of trash I saw infuriated me; I was so disappointed in my community. The city workers are just as much to blame as it is their job to maintain the parks. As I continued to walk back towards the benches, I noticed many homeless people resting on them. This absolutely broke my heart; I desperately wanted to help them all, but I knew that was impossible.

I found myself leaving the park in a foul mood, but then I reminded myself about all the pleasing things I saw in the park that pleasant day. Everything in this chaotic world contains its faults, but that does not make it any less beautiful. I, unfortunately, discovered that Bienville Square as well as the whole downtown area needs a little bit of minor maintenance. The city workers need to acknowledge how much trash is overflowing into our local streets and parks. Our community also needs to provide more assistance to the local homeless who genuinely want help. It is not every day that I go out and observe my surroundings, but that day I found importance in doing so. None of these specific faults altered the experiences I had at the beginning of my day. All the children playing naturally made me reminisce on the simpler times when I was a child. Also, the notable artist made me realize how much talent is in my community. My typical day at the park undoubtedly brought pure peace to my heart, but also showed me the importance of my community.
