Not only have my preexisting skills and interests helped me to succeed in my workplace, but the environment in which I work has allowed me to improve upon my skills. I have always been a very organized person, and that is something that is very important in a reception position, as I keep track of inventory and manage the stylist’s schedules. I often find myself reorganizing the product shelves to make them more appealing, and although I am not a very creative person, I do enjoy making displays for new products and collections. I do the same thing in my own room at home, whether its organizing pictures on my wall, or the makeup and products on my dresser.

One thing that I very important in my life is spending time with friends and family, I am a very social person and love to be involved with others. This carries over into my work in guest services as it allows me to create good professional relationships with not only my coworkers, but our clients as well. Many clients come to our salon for far more than a simple hair or spa service. It makes them feel good about themselves, and it becomes a constant in their life. I love knowing I made a difference in someone’s day, or hearing how friendly and easy to talk to I am. I am also able to work well with others, which is important in an industry where you’re expected always to have a smile on your face, and have a fun, bubbly personality. It is important for the success of the salon not to let drama, or differences of opinions between coworkers effect the level of care we provide our guests.

Another important aspect of my job is being able to recommend products, and sell services to clients. Despite not being a cosmetologist myself, I am still in the cosmetology industry, and this fits my personality well. I have always enjoyed getting my hair and nails done. One of my favorite hobbies is shopping, which includes products such as skin and haircare. This is important because I am always willing and eager to buy, and try the products we sell in the salon. When I find ones that I love, I always recommend them to clients, and am able to help them make decisions when product shopping. This is also useful when booking appointments, because my experiences getting services done by our service providers at the salon help reassure clients. I am able to tell them just how amazing the stylist they will be seeing is, as she does my hair, or how wonderful our esthetician is, as I just got a facial with her, etc. I am constantly listening to stylists when they explain products and services to clients, and I have a willingness to learn and ask questions when I am unsure of things. This allows me to become more confident fielding questions on my own, despite not having having a beauty school education myself.
