Violent video games have become a part of the social life of modern society. Video games have been played for many years but now there are many different types of games. The diverse types are action, adventure, role-playing, strategy, sports, idle, and violent games. Violent video games have a more aggressive or vicious representation of what the player must do. What are violent video games? What does it mean to play one or play excessively and the various kinds? Why do people and children play these games? Many people enjoy playing violent video games. Although many people do not consider the effects of video games, violent video games can be exposing to children and young teenagers.  

What are violent video games? This type of game has the presence of aggressive or hostile behaviour. Usually, they involve violence, criminal activities, use of drugs, sexual activities. Video games then become a way to simulate violence. Most are online with other people who can be strangers or friends with being able to communicate with each other to accomplish the goal of the game. Some are single-player where the game has pre-generated characters to interact with. Gaming normally is in a room with a television or computer connected to them. This way, it is possible to watch or play the game but also leave the room and take part in another activity. Players will interact with the video game's environment and sometimes with hostile computer-controlled characters.  

What does it mean to play a violent video game and what are the several types? It means engaging in an interacting game that can involve criminal activities, sexual activities, foul language, and the use of substances. There are many types of violent video games that can be played. For instance, there are first-person shooter games, which require shooting enemies with a gun and beating them up. There are fighting games, which require fighting other players or computer-generated characters. There are also action games, which are like fighting games, games that want certain actions to achieve objectives.  

Although playing these games is entertaining. Seeing that type of vicious behaviour can expose children and young teens to people or animals being killed, usage of drugs and alcohol, or abuse. The reasons why people play violent video games can be because of their fondness for violence and because of the thrill of success. Playing violent video games can be a hobby or influenced to be played by others. They are exciting and entertaining. Other reasons for playing could be a distraction from everyday stress and taking a break. It can also be played in a group, thus, having more social interaction and can help someone make friends more with that common interest. The excitement is a result of the player’s success in overcoming obstacles and learning to be more successful with the game. Players can learn to become more aggressive by seeing the behaviour in their video games. Violent video games may also desensitize people to aggression and violence.  

The causal factors of playing violent video games are from the game itself, how the games are played, and how often. When playing there is a possible increase in aggressive thoughts and behaviours. Playing excessively may decrease sleep and social skills. But some video games now are online or multiplayer, which can increase social behaviours. Playing with new people can help in friend-making, building online friendships can depend on how someone feels accepted. By playing, it can create an addiction to wanting to keep playing or to always have the newest game. Losing can be irritating, upsetting, and depressing so it could create a more competitive trait by wanting to win.  

Children and younger teens play violent video games for the fun of it. They play it because they enjoy the experience of violent video games, or it may be a hobby. Children and younger teenagers play video games for social reasons. These games can teach how to play with a team of other people to win or beat the game. But the winning aspect of gaming can make them feel more competitive and aggressive. Children could feel like they are influenced by others or siblings. Influenced to be playing what is the most popular or newest game. On the front of the videogame cover, the M rating is normally printed. The M rating means it has mature content which is more fitted for people who are 17 and older. Many adolescents receive these video games as gifts or buy them for themselves. Parents could be buying M-rated games for their children without even paying attention to what the game context is or to get them a game. Depending on the certain type of violent game but they expose children and young teens to people or animals being killed, usage of drugs and alcohol, or abuse. Also, criminal behaviour, defiance to authority, stereotypes of race, sexuality, gender inappropriate actions and bad language.

These games are rated M for mature, which means the content of the game is for people 17 or over. Depending on the type of violent game it can expose children and young teens to people or animals being killed, substance usage, or abuse. As well as criminal behaviour, gender inappropriate actions and bad language. Children being exposed to such behaviour may increase their aggressive thoughts or behaviours. They may also have poor social skills and decreased sleep. Children who play video games for extended periods may become unsympathetic toward others by being overly desensitized by violence. At the same time, it can make the children more aware of what is going on in their games, which may increase their empathy. Many games have age limitations, and parents should make sure that their children are not exposed to adult material.
