Around 100 thousand people died in an instant with the push of a single button, leaving thousands more to suffer from the resulting radiation. Disputes happen, wars happen, but is the use of such weapons even justified or even ethical? I think the use of such weapons is undoubtedly unjustifiable. Although nuclear technology is here to stay, it should not be used as a means to threaten the lives of millions.

The abolition of atomic bombs from the weapon arsenal of various countries can be supported by just pointing out the aftermath of the USA dropping the 2 atomic bombs on Japan. The only time such weapons were used in the history of plants, left thousands of people dead. Those who were injured could not be looked after as most of the hospitals around the epicenter of the blast were declared dysfunctional. Secondly, The radiation from the blast went miles in all directions resulting in radiation causing people to be more prone to deadly diseases like leukemia, cancer, and many more. The cities were inhabitable for years with the environment not being able to sustain any form of life for years.

Despite all the negative points about Nuclear Weapons, it has also been the cause of development in various fields. The concepts of fission and fusion have helped us to develop a variety of technologies over the year in several different industries. Approximately 10% of the electricity the world uses every year comes from nuclear reactors. Medical practices that use nuclear techniques can help to diagnose and treat diseases when conventional options may not be available or useful. We use nuclear engines on naval craft, and we are exploring this option for space travel as well.

In conclusion, even though the arguments for the positives of Nuclear Weapons do exist, I believe that the existence of such dangerous weapons is ethically wrong.
