Healthcare is a field with vast opportunities to further advance your degree, knowledge, and skills. Moreover, I strive to be a lifelong learner who takes every opportunity to continue doing so. I make sure that I stay up to date with new policies and procedures and continue my education at work. Through my encounters with my patients, I utilize the resources that I have available to provide holistic care and ensure that I am up to date with evidence-based practice.
Obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Nursing would help my nursing career. It will make me a more rounded nurse and help me eventually get my Master’s Degree. Currently, I am employed at a certified stroke and STEMI center hospital in Western New York, and preceding this job, I was employed at a Neurointensive Care Unit. The medical/surgical intensive care unit has given me strengths in critical thinking and delegation tasks. I have partaken in discussions for unit improvement projects such as lowering catheter-associated urinary tract infections and central line-associated bloodstream infections on the floor at my hospital. Online learning gives me the flexibility to work at my current place of employment while obtaining my degree. Personalized learning is a great way to tailor the needs of the individual and can be more beneficial than when learning is not personalized.
My strengths of compassion for my patients and advocating for my patients help give me more successful outcomes during their stay. I enjoy setting goals for myself and striving to achieve them promptly. Starting my nursing career in an intensive care unit has given me the strength and experience to manage my time efficiently, be adaptable, and manage being under pressure. I believe that through this RN to BSN program, I will be able to utilize the skills that I have obtained to become a successful student in this program. Moreover, I am a determined and reliable worker, which helps me excel in school and the workplace.
By pursuing this degree, I know that I will be a step closer to achieving my goal to obtain my Master’s Degree. Continuing to expand my knowledge on disease processes, nursing research, and safety and quality within the healthcare system will help me become the best nurse I can be.
