Nursing Personal Statement Example 2021

 A registered nurse is a nurse that assesses patients that have health problems and needs. They also provide care to ill, injured, and disabled patients. RNs can advise patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, or case management. These nurses keep your medical records. To be considered an RN, you must pass the NCLEX test, which you take after you finish school. They should also have an associate’s degree and or bachelor’s degree.

RNs must have some type of knowledge on medicine, therapy, and counseling. One of the necessary skills that all  RNs should have is listening skills. They need to listen to the patient's problems, so they know how to assist them. They should also know how to ask the right questions. This comes into play when the patient doesn’t know how to explain what’s wrong. The nurse will ask specific questions, so they know what they need to do. Next is being social; they will need the patient's reaction and look for ways to help them. They should be problem solvers. RNs should notice a problem and figure out what's the best way to solve it. Also, RNs have to know how to multitask in high-speed environments. There will be many days and nights where the hospital is hectic. They will most likely have more than one patient. Registered nurses should know how to pay attention without getting distracted by the things around them, which is essential when working in the hospital. 

On top of having the necessary skills, Registered nurses should have a great personality like helping others, teaching, and talking to people naturally. To add to that, they should have integrity, concern for others, dependability, have a high-stress level, and the know-how to cooperate. 

After having my RN license, I will be push forward to become a NICU nurse. A neonatal nurse is a nurse that works in NICU, also known as the neonatal intensive care unit. These nurses care for premature newborns, babies with congenital disabilities, critical illnesses, or any other specialized needs. The requirements to become a NICU nurse are obtaining a BSN, getting certified in Neonatal resuscitation or neonatal Intensive care nursing, and completing the clinical experience in a hospital setting. 

NICU nurses’ responsibilities are caring for the newborn’s everyday needs like feeding and diaper changes. They offer support and comfort to premature and ill infants and their parents and family. There are three different levels to the NICU. There is level 1, the Well Baby Nursery, and these babies are healthy and ready to be with their mothers. Level two is the Special Care Nursery; this nursery has babies who are 32 weeks and who weigh more than 3.3 pounds. These newborns have some health problems, but extreme care is not needed. Lastly is level three; this is for newborns who didn’t make the 32-week mark.  These babies are less than 3 pounds and have severe medical conditions or need some form of surgery. I want to be a part of levels 1 and 2, then, later on, move to level 3. 

The average hourly pay for a NICU rn in the U.S is $48.91. Wages can go as high as $68.51 and as low as $28.85. The majority of NICU rn wages currently range between $39.90 25th percentile to $55.29 75th percentile across the U.S. Neonatal nurses even have the opportunity to travel. Hospital often rely on travel NICU nurses. They can earn up to $2,300 a week.

One of the benefits of being a NICU nurse is giving newborns their best chance at life. Giving babies the best care possible, allowing them to enjoy life healthy. Another is being a trusted support to families. Families put they trust into the nurses hoping they will do everything possible to help their babies. Next is teaching parents specialized care skills. Helping parents learn the basic needs to care for their babies. For example breast feeding, washing and diaper changing. Lastly being a NICU nurse can prepare you for a more advanced career.    

Just like everything else there are some disadvantages. One is being undervalued. Being though that they are nurses and not doctors they get under looked. Another is having long work days and being emotional strained. These nurses work long hours helping mom and making sure the babies are properly cared for. Also seeing so many sick babies and having no control on what the outcome is can be very depressing. Lastly is physical demands, nurses take demands from doctors and co workers who are in a higher position then them. Which somethings can be overwhelming because they can more than one demand.

To sum up everything that has been stated becoming a NICU nurse takes time, great personality, dependability, patients, being able to multitask and dedecation. These nurses take pride in helping and doing their jobs. It also comes with many benefits and disadvantages but in the end its all worth it at the end.
