In a time, full of separation, hatred, and inequality some people are trying to unite and make changes for the better good in our communities. In Our Time Is Now by Stacy Abrams’ is intended for minorities and people that don’t believe in the system anymore. Also, when trying to persuade an audience, knowing your audience can also be very important. There are many kinds of ways to try to catch their attention. Knowing the target audience helps put content in places where the audience will be more likely to see it and allows you to make a connection with them. Being able to make a connection with your audience allows them to comprehend what your point is and gives them a better perspective. Stacy Abrams’ does a great job at being able to connect with her targeted audience and is shown many times in her book, Our Time is Now.

The main target audience in the book is minorities and people that don’t trust the system. I believe this is her audience because of her examples of the “power grab” from minorities to hold onto power. She talks about how people of color have been suppressed from voting over the years and provides examples from different races and ages. Stacy states an example of a “power grab” from minorities, “Native Americans living on the reservation in North Dakota were told that in order to vote, they had to street addresses where none existed.” (11). The Native Americans were suppressed of voting by the unfair laws put in place by the government and therefor do not trust the system. Most Americans have heard a story about how a minority group was suppressed by the government.

By letting others see your personality, you’ll build better bonds with people that share the same problems and hardships. The reason I believe this, is that Abrams connects the preamble of the Constitution to her writing and message to connect with her readers. She talks about how people are left out when it comes to voting. Abrams is arguing that the ability to vote is not always a given when she says, “Most of us can recite the preamble to the Constitution” (Abrams 11). She connects with her readers by bringing up the preamble of the Constitution because most people know the words to it. She relates it to justices and liberty when it comes to electing and voting leaders into office. Using texts and quotes that many people know helps the audience gain interest and connect with the reading.

Stacy Abrams’ was very successful with the techniques she used because majority of the U.S. minorities agree with her views. She was able to connect with them and influence them to join her side that wasn’t corrupt. Being able to connect with minorities and people that don’t believe in the voting system anymore allowed her to gain more people on her side. In Our Time Is Now by Stacy Abrams’ is intended for minorities and people that don’t believe in the system anymore.
