Personal Essay Sample: I'm an Introvert

Believe it or not, introverts make up 25-40% of the world’s population. Beyonce, Queen Elizabeth II, and Selena Gomez are a few examples of celebrities that fall under this category, all having an ISFJ personality type. As an individual who received ISFJ as a result of a Myer-Briggs Personality Test, I relate to many of the corresponding characteristics. ISFJ people are often distinguished by their efficient and reliable personalities. In their daily lives, they often pay attention to practical matters. As a student at Pieper High School and an ISFJ, I most relate to the introvert, sensor, and judger characteristics because I like to focus on one at a time when completing school work, I prefer concrete, unchanging information like Algebra, and I like to organize my day so I always know what to expect.

In school, I relate to being introverted because introverts prefer taking things in small steps. When I have to complete a project, assignment, or goal, I like to work methodically. With homework, I never multitask; however, I take it one class at a time. It is often more efficient that way. I believe that my way of completing work makes my life orderly and this translates to how I perform in school. Accomplishing my work in small amounts at a time has a positive effect on my life because it leads to less stress and more organization. Though I end up completing my assignments one at a time, I often prefer doing certain subjects first because of the way I can answer the questions.

When doing schoolwork, I relate to my sensor characteristics because I prefer concrete information instead of tentative information. In school, my favorite subjects are always the ones that have definite answers, like Algebra. I usually dislike assignments that are graded subjectively like essays. In Algebra, there is always an unchangeable answer that has a specific way to find it. On the contrary, English is graded differently based on your teachers’ different experiences. This specific example translates to how I see the world. I like to look for the truth in situations rather than opinions. I can find these truths more in the facts than in non-concrete information. This positively affects my life because finding correct information helps me solve problems with the best insight and experience I can have. In the same way I like concrete information, I also like clearly defined schedules.

Whenever I have deadlines or events, I like to plan and stay organized, which relates to judger characteristics. In my life, I always like to know how my day will go. I dislike it when something pops up on my schedule without much notice. This leads me to be neat and orderly. Every month, I erase my whiteboard calendar and refill it with the month’s activities. I am most comfortable when my itinerary is set and my day sticks to the plan. If I am going to an event, I like to know exactly what to expect. This positively affects my life because I am less anxious when I know what to anticipate. This leads me to be in a better mood, which leads to better days. In a nutshell, I relate to judger characteristics because I like to plan so I carry fewer burdens each day.

Overall, I relate to most of the letters in my ISFJ personality results, namely the introvert, sensor, and judger characteristics. In the future, I can use these characteristics to help me stay organized, take things one step at a time, and use information instead of opinions to make decisions. These characteristics will affect my school life because they help me complete assignments efficiently, neatly, and correctly. People with these characteristics will help the world run smoother by being put together, planned, and fact-based.
