Minnesota has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Minnesota's location in the Upper Midwest allows it to experience some of the widest variety of weather in the United States, with each of the four seasons having its own distinct characteristics. Because of this Minnesota winters are very fun because of the snow and cold you can ski, sled as well as ice skate. When you're done with the cold and the snow you can go inside with a cup of hot cacao. During the summer Minnesota's weather allows you to fish and swim in the lakes and rivers, camp in the forest, and last but not least go to the state fair. This is Minnesota’s location culture. Culture is what defines you, your family, and your community. Without culture, you would not know what you like and what you enjoy. Culture is the food you eat, the things you do, the religion you celebrate, the places you come from, and the age you are. Two rings of culture most important to me are location culture and age culture.
The first ring of culture that affects my life is the culture I get by being located in Minnesota. One value of Minnesotan culture is the forests and lakes as it’s an important part of the outdoor activities we do.  To touch on that further In Minnesota, we go camping in the forests. We always make sure to have smores over the fire and sometimes I even get to ride in the back of my grandpa's truck and drive around the woods. Since Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes we go fishing and eat what we catch. An expectation of location culture in Minnesota is being respectful to the forests and lakes. When my family and my grandparents camp together we make sure to not leave anything behind and to only use the dead branches as well as the branches we find on the ground for fires. When we go fishing we catch some fish from the lake or river then head back so the fish wouldn't die out so other people can enjoy fishing and camping too.
My second ring of culture is age culture. I am almost 13 so one value to me is technology. For example, since I am almost 13 I can play games with friends on my PC and talk with them on discord.  A deep value to me is I'm not as social as I would have been when I was younger. For example, 6 years ago I would have been more social in person. Since I am almost a teenager I am expected to get good grades because I have better focus and attention span. To be more specific, since I am almost 13 I have not been as social in-person as I used to be because as you get older you get more shy and not as brave, especially because of covid. I also like my personal space because privacy can be nice especially since I have 3 brothers. I am expected to get good grades because I'm older and I understand things better than my youngest brother. For example, I have better focus and attention span than he does because of my age.
The cultures I picked for this were my location culture as well as my age culture. My location culture is Minnesotan and my age culture is 12 and almost a teenager. My location culture has had a big impact on me. Without the friends, the people, and the places here in Minnesota I would not have been who I am now. I would not like snow as much, I would not know about skiing or fishing either. Not being a Minnesotan could impact me in the future by the education I get as well as the job I get. My age culture also has had a big impact on me from the friends I have met, to the experiences I have had, to the technology being invented every day. Without my friends and these experiences, I would not have been who I am today. I picked location culture because I really think that the place you live in and grow up in is what makes you who you are. I picked age culture because your age can make a big difference from experiences to friends. These two things can really shape your life. That is why I chose location and age culture.
