What would a 13-year olds bucket list be? Also, what is a bucket list? A bucket list is a list of things people make to do before they die. Bucket lists are important because it sets a goal in life if an individual doesn't already have one. The matter of this essay is climbing Mount Everest. Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth and one thing that people might want to add to their bucket lists.

As most people know Mount Everest is the tallest mountain on Earth. Mount Everest is one of the peaks in the Himalayas. In the 1840s a land survey went underway and came to the conclusion that Mount Everest was the highest mountain. Also in 1986, a satellite made the assumption that the mountain rises 29,031 feet above sea level. Why is the mountain so tall? It's so tall because the Indian plate slips under the Eurasian plate and it uplifts the Himalayas stated by Wilkinson Freddie on National Geographic.. The Himalayas and Mount Everest are slowly increasing over time but an earthquake could shrink the mountain at any moment. After tireless research scientists have come to the conclusion that Mount Everest grows approximately 2 centimeters every year.

Over 500 people attempt to climb Mount Everest every year, although some don’t make it. In 2020, 11 climbers died trying to climb the dangerous mountain. Every year 6 people die on average from climbing Mount Everest. While being on the top is a sight to see the mountain is a very dangerous climb. Since it is such an unreal experience to be on top of the world it costs a lot. For a trip to the top it will cost $28,000 to $85,000 according to Nicole Chavez from a CNN article.. Some people might be wondering, why does climbing the mountain cost so much? The first reason is that the government charges a permit fee that is $11,000 per person. The second reason is oxygen bottles and equipment, the people paying will pay for this and for the sherpas oxygen and equipment. Sherpas are guides that live in the Himalayan mountains to help climbers. More than 10,000 Sherpas live in the Khumbu valley which borders the southern side of Mount Everest. When climbing Mount Everest almost all climbers will need a Sherpa. Every season Sherpas earn about $5,000 to $8,000. Lars Olof Göran Kropp made the daring accomplishment of climbing the mountain without a Sherpa or bottled oxygen. The Swedish man climbed Mount Everest without the essentials on May 23, 1996.

On October 20, 1962, China and India were engaged in a tense battle for the Himalayas. Some people think that India owns part of the Himalayas but that’s not actually true. Surprisingly China and Nepal actually own the Himalayas. Nepal broke free from India in 2008 and was declared a republic. China and Nepal have been very peaceful and respectful with each other's land in the Himalayas. In 1961 officially signed a treaty stating they were peaceful and a border protocol was signed. Tenzing Norgay, the second person to step foot on the peak of Mount Everest, was the first Nepali on the peak. Wang Fuzhou, Gonpo, and Qu Yinhua reached the summit at 4:20 a.m on May 25 as to be the first people to climb Everest from China.

In summary Mount Everest is a beautiful and rewarding experience yet dangerous. Only the most daring climbers can tell a story of having climbed this ginormous mountain. As mentioned before the Sherpas have the dangerous responsibility of keeping the climber safe and on track. They earn a relatively good sum of cash every year helping climbers and helping fulfill a bucket list. Also mentioned in this essay is supplies and oxygen. Oxygen and supplies are essential to climbing the mountain. Without supplies checking off the accomplishment of climbing Everest won't be complete.Climbing Mount Everest is no easy task and deserves a spot on a bucket list. A bucket list is something that is a hard to do task and is why climbing Mount Everest should be on any bucket list.
