What does passion mean to you? For most, it can be a devotion to a sport or hobby, and for others, a special someone. No matter how someone envisions passion, everyone has that emotion. Resentment can define someone as a maniac or a superstar; either way, zeal can create a person that others wouldn’t be able to see.

In the beginning, my passion for sports started with a chubby 12-year-old juvelille, looking at my fathers' trophies from high school. Traveling to different parts of Arizona to watch an Angels game, bowling in tournaments, and even watching playoff sports with my father. For me, competition has been the main aspect of sports that I yearn for. My first baseball tournament created challenges that expanded my experience. For example, emotions like anxiousness, doubt, and nervousness, all helped me become a better ballplayer than ever. Those emotions are what every player faces no matter what sport they play. Players will have to face adversity, anger, pain, and suffering, but it’s part of the game, on and off the field.

Nonetheless, most don’t know what it is to be passionate about something when in reality, everyone has the one thing that they can’t depict as aspiration. For instance, someone could have a lust for a certain food, drink, activity, even a season, they don’t see the zeal that anyone can have. For example, I love playing video games, starting up the console, and loading up Call Of Duty every weekend was my childhood. The ability to escape reality for a period of time, just to enjoy myself for an hour or two felt incredible. Video games can be one of your sentiments in this world but depending on what you want to do with your life, it can take away time that you can use furthering your knowledge of your goal. See not all sentiments can be a positive thing, video games are a great example because you are losing time that you can better yourself for your career or becoming a better person.

In all honesty, being addicted to this fascination you possess is different than becoming obsessed with it. No matter what anyone thinks, taking a break gives you the chance to avoid the burnout effect, which every single athlete or businessman faces. Taking a break, just allows you to come back even stronger than before, giving you more ideas and motivation towards your goal. Doesn't matter if it’s sports, dance, academics, you have to give yourself a little bit of time to reflect on what you could've done better, to not make the same mistakes as before. Everyone that is younger learns from their elders' mistakes so they will not make those same faults.

To tell the truth, passion is only a passion until you work hard so it becomes a reality. You can be completely obsessed with whatever you want to focus on, but you need time to recuperate. You need to focus on the next part of whatever you want to do in life. A strength conditioning coach at Georgia Tech said it perfectly, “you need to sprint when the distance is unknown”. That is what defines you as a person that succeeds in achieving that goal, or they fall short, decide what side you want to be a part of.
