Mac and cheese are an American classic and a must-try if you live in or are visiting the United States. The most delicious dish I have ever tasted is macaroni and cheese.

I don’t know exactly how or when it happened, but I can assume that the first time I ate macaroni was when my momma cooked it in our apartment in New Orleans. I prayed to God to bless my food and Immediately as I put it in my mouth, the velvety cheese melted on my tongue and it harmonized perfectly with the chewy noodles. I probably had two or three plates of macaroni which, although unhealthy, was worth it. If heaven had a feeling, the sensation would be like eating this.

What encouraged me to eat macaroni? Well, if you live in a place that is known for its food it would be tremendously impossible to avoid eating it. Soul cuisine, such as collard greens, red beans, fried fish, and (of course) macaroni is popular in New Orleans. Additionally, there are a couple unwritten rules that the majority of people know: being rude to your mother is a fatal mistake, not tasting her food is a mental slap in the face, which counts; anyone in the household cannot waste food in their mother’s house. What truly made me taste it for the first time is how it looked. I believe that presentation of food is as important as how it tastes. I can suppose that the display wasn’t flawless, but it looked mouthwatering, and it was palatable.

What makes macaroni and cheese top the rest? Mac and cheese can be cooked in various ways. To illustrate, it can be cooked in a pot, in the oven, in a skillet, etc. What’s more, is that numerous things can be added to it. Mac and cheese can be made with mix-ins or side dishes like broccoli, peas, bacon, chicken, etc. If one prefers to eat it plainly, then it’s understandable. The simplicity of macaroni undoubtedly makes it different from the rest. It’s not drastic in flavor or ingredients that makes it noteworthy. Furthermore, this exemplary dish is affordable (unless one would prefer expensive cheeses) and can easily feed the whole family. For instance, store-bought mac and cheese like Kraft and Velveeta have reasonable prices.

Overall, this heavenly creation of food, as simple as it is, whether it’s store-bought or home cooked, baked or made in a pot, made with expensive cheeses or not, is my favorite. After reading this essay, could it possibly be one’s dearest now too?
