Persuasive Essay: Countries Whose Ideas Would Be Beneficial For Canada

The first country whose ideas I think would be beneficial for Canada would be Slovenia’s free university. I think this idea would be a very useful thing in Canada because universities are very expensive, especially when eighteen-year-olds have to make their own money and pay for it themselves. Many also get student loans, and they spend a lot of their lives paying them off. They also have to get assignments in on time and have to have time to study. All these factors put a lot of pressure on kids and discourages students from going to university. Making universities free would also mean a well-educated society and more room for innovation and creativity since everyone has a chance to get educated. Slovenia also has free universities for foreigners which probably has people from all over the world come there. This encourages more innovation since people from different backgrounds, cultures, and religions would have several different ideas.

Italy’s idea of the different paid vacations is something I think would be beneficial for Canada. From the start, Italians get 30-35 days of paid vacation every year and if they don’t use it up that year they get it added to their next year’s vacations. This will help people destress themselves without having to worry about where they’re gonna get money to pay for their necessities. Mothers are given five months of paid maternity leave because Italians believe that the first few months of a baby’s life are very important for parents and should be savored since they only come once. I feel like this would be beneficial for all the mothers and newborns since it would give them time together rather than having to put the child in daycare and also having to pay for it. Canadian mothers get fifteen weeks of paid maternity leave compared to twenty-one weeks and about five days of maternity leave in Italy. With this in mind, Italians also get an extra salary in December considering it the “13th-month” salary and I think this will benefit a person who gets fired and they have this thirteenth salary from the past however many years and they can probably live off that extra money for a bit while looking for a new job. All these vacations cause Italians to be less stressed and have a higher life expectancy than Canadians.

I think the last country with great ideas is Germany. Like their idea of no calls or emails after work hours or during vacation. I believe that this idea should be implemented in Canada because so many workers get called/emailed/texted after work hours and are physically at home but expected to be doing work. This seems like employers aren’t empathetic enough to realize that their employees also have lives outside of work. I also think the idea that half the board members in companies are workers is a good idea and this is because they are the voice of the workers since they know if anything is going on. These people will stand up for the worker’s rights because they are workers too. The last idea out of all the ones we learned about Germany would be them educating students about the Holocaust and not covering it up. And since we already teach about residential schools and what injustices happened to the Aboriginal people in school. The new public holiday we have named Truth & Reconciliation I feel like Canada has started using this idea and encouraging everyone to wear orange shirts for all the kids that went to the residential schools and the ones that died too. This holiday also educates a lot of people that didn’t know a lot about the residential schools and things the kids there went through.
