Is the Electoral College a good system for electing the President in the 21st century? I think that the electoral college should be abolished due to the fact that it doesn’t necessarily follow the paths of the popular vote. It’s really important that every state has a fair and equal voting system. Since the electoral college has been around since the beginning of the American Republic. The electoral college leaves many people unhappy with the way that it functions. Many have believed that the system undercuts the basics and the principle of representative government. Like most of the documents from the founding fathers, the electoral college has a chance of being flawed and is in need of change or just throw it out and start anew. I feel that this should not be a winner takes all type of government

The electoral college is not a neutral voting system but one that favors larger states. Giving them more power than those with lesser populations. George Edwards talks about how the electoral college violates Political equality, along with false statements calling itself a neutral counting device. The chart in Document D shows how unfair the states are when it comes to population and how it tries to use a corrupted voting system. Yes, I understand that the electoral college might have worked when it was first proposed and then created by the founding fathers. But in all truth, they were just trying to keep their new government from falling apart and being divided into two parts. These documents were meant to be changed.

There are many downsides when it comes to abolishing the electoral college. A few things that would happen if the electoral college should be abolished would be the two weaker parties would fall apart. Then millionaires would jump at the chance of presidential contrast, or bullying smaller parties. Mr. Will and Mr. Schlesinger Jr. both talk about how smaller parties with outside the box ideas are allowed to vote smaller parties will be needed. They also both mention splinter parties and candidates. Schlesinger feels that they are overlooked while Will feels that their ideas could be used. So in the United States, there is a two-party system meaning that there are only two major parties. but some Democracies have more pirates within their own party. Those with multi parties have a real chance at winning. Expanding on this topic, big and small states may seem fair to the uneducated. Smaller states are up there with the bigger states in terms of electoral votes, although bigger states have more of a say when it comes to making these kinds of decisions while smaller states have to struggle or ban together to just have their voices heard.

Overall I feel that the electoral college should be abolished but not where it would cause chaos. So that the downsides of rewriting the electoral college won't be as present as many documents have stated. The present electoral college system leaves many Americans unhappy with the fact that they feel that their voices aren't being heard by the people they voted to be in charge to keep this kind of stuff from happening.
