What is and was is not overrated has been debated over for millennia. There are those who believe popular things such as fashion or technology is are overrated and do much more harm than good. However, I believe that large cities are overrated compared to small towns because the city is unable to worry about individuals.

Large cities such as New York or Los Angeles are known for their bustling streets and the extensive amount of people who reside there.  However, in these large cities, there is much less personal approach that comes with living there. The city government does not have neither the time nor resources to worry about every problem that a person may face, no matter how large it may be. They are concerned with the needs of the many instead of the few. The government in these cities are spread too thin and this usually generates suffering on both ends. However, in smaller towns, the government is able to give a personal approach and focus on certain problems that may be plaguing an individual. While it may take month for it to get done in a city setting (if ever).

In large cities, the poverty rate is much higher. This is due to the inflation that comes with many cities. Small apartments cost the same as a decent sized house in a small town. Many families are cramped into minuscule apartments that are only meant for one or two people. However, some are not that lucky. The homelessness rates in large cities grow exponentially each year. However, in small towns the real estate prices is substantially lower as well as higher quality. There is also a diminished number of homeless in smaller towns. For the few homeless people that may reside in a small town, there are usually homeless shelters with much more capacity that the ones in the bigger cities. The government is able to give resources to those in need

The incidence rate is also higher in large cities. This can mainly be contributed to the higher crime rate in large cities. Another reason is illness. For example, the 2020 corona virus outbreak in New York. Thousands of people were dying from this ailment every day. This was due to people constantly being in close quarters with each other and exposing themselves to the virus. There was also not adequate space in the hospital to treat all the infected as well as limited resources to treat it. However, in smaller towns there was usually just enough resources to treat the afflicted. The government in the larger cities were unable to provide help to everyone in need. Although almost every town of the US experienced the devastating effects of the virus, you will find that the larger cities had a much higher death rate compared to small towns. There is also much more pollution in cities than small down. This can lead to serious health effects down the road.

Although cities are not all bad, they have a lot of opportunities that smaller towns might not be able to offer. Cities however seem to have many more drawbacks compared to smaller towns which seem to be more efficient when dealing with individual needs as well as the needs of the many. So yes, I believe that larger cities are overrated.
