School dress code is a very controversial matter. Some kids have to wear uniforms and others don’t. Some schools enforce them others don’t. Learwood Middle School shouldn't enforce a dress code policy because they can cause discipline problems and they may hinder self expression.

The first reason why Learwood Middle School shouldn’t have a school uniform policy is because they can cause discipline problems. In source one it states that, “Forcing them to wear school uniforms only aggravates their rebellious spirit.” Students don’t like wearing uniforms and if they get mad because they have to wear them they will start breaking more rules. According to source one it also states that, “They alter their school uniform by tightening, widening, shortening, or lengthening them, and teachers are given the impossible task of policing the students on a daily basis.” Students will be more rebellious in more ways than one, maybe they will start talking back or as the quote states they will alter the uniform.

The second reason why Learwood Middle School shouldn't have a school uniform policy is that they may hinder students' self expression. In source two it states that, “School uniforms may hinder self expression through clothing, forcing students to find other ways to put across who they are.” Many students express themselves through clothing and for them to not be able to wear what they want so they can express themselves they might rebel against them. If they rebel the teachers will also have to policy them for that. Source two also states that, “Self expression and individuality is important to a child’s development.” This shows that students should be able to express themselves through clothing and that you shouldn’t force them to wear a uniform.

The opposition states that Learwood Middle School should have a school uniform because the school will be safe from outsiders. The opposition is incorrect because school uniforms can be borrowed from a friend. Source one states that, “I am also sure that it would not be that hard to borrow uniforms from friends who may go to the uniform school.” Children from other schools could get into the school just by having a friend that goes there. People from other schools shouldn’t be able to get into the school because they don’t go there. Source one also states that, “I guess sometimes students from other schools do go to other schools to cause trouble.” Students from other schools can cause a ruckus if they decide they want to cause trouble and having a school uniform wont help that if anything it will make it worse because they will have more reasons to taunt them.

In conclusion Learwood Middle School shouldn't enforce a dress code policy because they can cause discipline problems and they may hinder self expression. There are many controversial topics other than school uniforms such as politics and climate change. Some are serious and some aren’t. This is why Learwood Middle School shouldn’t enforce a dress code policy.
