My pets have made plenty of fun memories like one time, my dog realized he had tape on his back and he couldn’t remove it. I didn’t know until recently but you could actually clone your animal! Something extremely surprising was when reading the article “Paying $100,000 to Clone Your Dog Won’t Give You Your Dog Back” by Melissa Dahl thanks to one of the quotes it included which was, “If I had a few hundred thousand dollars to spare, I know I would’ve half-seriously considered it for my dear little cat, who died last year.” Cloning is awful for many reasons like how it causes enormous stress for the mother of the cloned animal, many of the cloned animals die extraordinarily fast and there are many animals that need to be rescued but can’t be now.

To start with, cloning causes enormous stress for the mother of the cloned animal. In the article “Should You Clone Your Pet?” It says, “Plus, implanting an embryo is an invasive procedure that puts the surrogate mothers through enormous stress.” The author is explaining that the process the scientists do is extremely invasive on the mothers. The invasive process in exchange causes enormous stress on the mother. The stress caused is horribly unhealthy for the animal and can cause their immune system to decrease and them to become more prone to disease.

Another way cloning is bad is, many of the cloned animals die immediately or unusually soon in life. In the article “Should You Clone Your Pet?” it says, “For every successful clone, there are dozens of failures. In the early days, cloned animals often had shorter life spans, birth defects and other health problems.” The author is saying that this process kills many animals in the process. The animals that do survive often receive shorter life spans and health problems. The cloned animals would then live in pain and when the animals die earlier than expected, the owner could be even sadder than before.

Some people who think cloning animals is acceptable, base their opinions on it reducing grief for the owner of the dead pet. Consequently, in the article “Should You Clone Your Pet?” it says, “For every successful clone, there are dozens of failures.” The author is saying that the cloning of animals comes with a price. To make up for one animal that you want back, dozens die in the process. To clone a pet this shows there is suffering of other pets in the process.

At the end of the day, pet cloning is not acceptable. It hurts many animals in the process by causing stress to the mothers, many of the clones die or possess health problems and live shorter lives and animals that need to be rescued won’t be. Just due to the fact that you want your animal back, doesn’t mean others should retain suffering.
