Many colleges and universities have something called college tuition. This means that you have to pay for your education, the same education that is necessary to get a good-paying job. This might be difficult for many people to do because most people weren’t fortunate enough to not have money be seen as an “issue” in life as a whole. So having to pay for an education that should be free gives many students a reason to not even think about going to college, for the reason of not wanting to live their life with this heavy debt over their shoulders. This is why colleges should be free.

Colleges should be free. With college tuition now it is very likely that students can’t pay their entire tuition without a lifetime full of debt. Studies show that “American Families carry more than $1.5 trillion in student loan debt” ( Forbes, 7% of Borrowers are on Track to Never Repay their Student Loans, According To A New Report) The only solution to this student loan debt is to get a higher paying job. Higher paying jobs require a higher education which is very costly. If colleges were free, students would feel more comfortable going to college rather than sticking to a minimum wage job because they are scared to live a life full of debt. Then the college application rate would increase. This is why colleges should be free.

Nevertheless, people may argue that getting rid of college tuition would not change the college graduation rate. Which is wrong. Getting rid of college tuition would increase the college application rate which then would by default increase the graduation rate. Without the pressure of student debt, more students would have more motivation to want to go and finish college. This is why these claims against getting rid of college tuition would be false.

In conclusion, college tuition should be free because some students aren’t fortunate enough to be able to pay for college without going into student debt. It would also give a lot of students a reason to go to college, most students skip out on college for the sole reason of not wanting to go into student debt. Even though some may argue that getting rid of college tuition wouldn’t change the graduation rate, it would rather do the opposite. To sum up, all that has been stated before college should be free.
