The perfect baby with the perfect hair, eye color, and even gender. How is this possible? Is it even possible? Many scientists are starting to research and believe "designer babies" will become a reality and be available soon. If someone wants to create their dream baby, designer babies should be allowed. It allows the parents to choose the features and improve the babies health. The future is in favor for those with this dream.
To start, imagine you have blue eyes and your husband has brown but you both for sure want your child to have blue eyes, you can make this possible. In the future, Designer Babies will become available but what does that mean exactly. According to “Designer Babies, The Key To A Better Developed World” it says “Designer Babies are babies whose genetic make-up has been selected to destroy a particular defect or to ensure that a particular gene is present.” Not only does it allow you to choose what characteristics you would like, but also what you don’t want. “Parents are given the chance to design the features of their child such as skin color, facial attributes, height, and even intelligence just like picking items from the supermarket shelves into the shopping cart” (Designer Babies, The Key To A Better Developed World paragraph 5). One of the biggest traits offered to alter is gender. Parents can choose whether they want to have a boy or girl because if a family already has 2 of the same they might want the opposite gender. Designer babies could provide a way for a family to have their perfect baby.
To continue, a common concern with families before having a child is genetic disorders. A benefit of “designer babies” is health improvement. Due to being able to change with technology, diseases can be decreased. “For instance, it does not only decrease a baby’s chances of being affected by certain health conditions but increases a baby’s chances of survival as well. Scientists have found out that because of being able to modify, in the future people might become immune to such diseases.
On the other hand, Some might argue that designer babies should not be allowed. People should accept how their baby is born instead of changing everything. Every baby is born the way they might to be, even if the parents want brown hair but the baby ends up blonde. “Even these turn out to be more complicated than a lot of people thought” (Designer babies: an ethical horror waiting to happen? Paragraph 25). It might be possible to change and alter traits but it is complicated. As a parent, you should love the way your baby is born no matter what.
In conclusion, designer babies should be allowed. It gives parents the perfect opportunity to have their perfect, flawless, dream baby. It allows the parents to choose the characteristics and it boosts the baby's health. Dreams should come true and if it’s to design a baby then it should happen.
