Greetings from the district! There have been comments and bickering throughout individuals within the topic of whether we should keep GMO labels on products of consumption. It has been opinionated on one hand to not show labels, as it could cause confusion, as not many people know about GMOs or don’t understand it. Others also don’t necessarily agree with the idea of GMOs, so not labeling the product would be probable to outrage among the consumers. But in my opinion, I believe that we should label GMO products, because I believe that these labels could put off more of an important impression than thought.

I believe that GMO products should be labeled because they indicate how “organic” the produce is. According to this article, What Does GMO Mean? Are GMOs Bad For Humans & The Environment?,  GMO is basically a genetically modified organism. This means that the produce has been genetically modified and evolved, and could possibly contain other techniques or other genetically added benefits that buyers may not want. If they are looking for bare organic, GMO labeling in this case would help these people to buy their desired prime fresh fruits and vegetables, and know what they are looking for to benefit their lifestyle. Although GMO may seem harmless however, it could take a toll on that lifestyle if not taken fully into account.

Another reason why I believe that GMO products should be labeled is because some people may be affected by some contents in GMO. Although most contents in GMO products are mainly very harmless, other products have been affected by overuse or high contents of pesticide combinations. According to the article Do You Know Why GMOs Are Bad? | Organic Valley, and their quote, “GMOs lead to increased use of stronger, more toxic pesticide combinations,” this can be extremely toxic to the human body, and these toxic pesticides could also affect the environment while at it. This is why it is important to label certain products that have been exposed to GMO processes, because other’s immune systems may not be able to break down the contents; which leads to the individual needing these labels to know what to buy and stay safe. The health and trust of the consumers also matters, and we should look out for them by not only telling the raw truth about the products, but this is also why we need labeling.

Who doesn’t like honesty? Honesty is the best policy, and the small step of adding these labels would much convince the buyer to come back and buy more, as we are as transparent as we could get with our products. “Labeling products under GMO helps build a trust between the farmers, producers, and the consumers about their food.” [ Pros and Cons of GMO labeling | Understanding Today's Agriculture ] This would also help our businesses within the district to flourish, as people are willing to pay more, or even a higher price for products they know they want, and giving them the products that they are looking for, would possibly cause them to come back for more. The small step of adding these labels can do a lot for not only us, but for our folk.

Bringing and keeping these GMO labels are not just for looks; but they ultimately mean a lot more to the product. Whether it comes to wanting to buy the freshest tomato of the cluster, or you simply cannot eat the contents in it, our businesses also need to be trusted when it comes to our prime products. These labels indicate a lot in an item, indicating whether for a consumer to buy it or not, I believe that these labels could benefit a lot more buyers in the future. This is why I propose the idea of keeping GMO labels, and why it could benefit us all, seen and unseen.
