More than 3 years of tension, Multiple talks held, Tons of nukes tested. Still to this day the U.S efforts into denuclearizing North Korea have had no result. However, today’s legislation can make an immense impact. I am on the affirmative side and I believe that the U.S should withdraw from the 1953 mutual Defence treaty because it would strengthen U.S national security efforts and we won’t lose more money in South Korea.

First, pass this legislation because withdrawing from the 1953 defence treaty will strengthen U.S national security efforts. In today's legislation, North Korea has expressed their denuclearization as an option, only if the U.S withdraws from the Korean peninsula. If North Korea stops making nuclear weapons this can be a significant step and will strengthen U.S national security efforts. According to the United Nations Nuclear weapons are the most dangerous weapons on earth.  One can destroy a whole city, potentially killing millions, and jeopardizing the natural environment and lives of future generations through its long-term catastrophic effects. For many years the U.S has been trying to stop countries from using these devastating things and if we pass this bill North Korea may listen to us. According to a study by BBC news the aftermath of the famous atomic bomb blast of Hiroshima and Nagasaki caused an estimated 214,000 deaths. Look at a study by BBC, New York times and Reuters who state that the largest nuclear bomb ever detonated was Tsar Bomba which was detonated by the Soviet Union had more power than 50 million tons of TNT! Nuclear warheads just bring more people to their knees as people watch the horror unravelling in front of them.  Onto the next point. Next, pass this legislation because we won’t lose more money in South Korea. Still to this day the U.S has been sending troops to South Korea, and we have been spending too much money there. Fortunately, the U.S will leave South Korea in order for North Korea to denuclearize. Gao.gov states that From 2016 through 2019, the Department of Defense spent an estimated 34 billion dollars in Japan and South Korea to pay military salaries, construct facilities, and perform maintenance. That is simply way too much money the U.S needs to pay for another country. The U.S still has loads of problems stacking up higher and we can use that much money for our own problems. Like Tiger Woods once said, In order to help people, you have to first learn how to help yourself. There have been improvements over the main problems the U.S is facing but are simply not enough. Here are two main examples: According to BBc news the number of undocumented migrants reaching the US-Mexico border has hit the highest level in more than 20 years in the latest sign of the humanitarian crisis facing the Biden administration. Also according to Nasa.gov 2020 was the tied warmest year on record statistics show. These problems face America, and us staying in South Korea will lead to more.

While North Korea has constantly been making nuclear warheads each year we can set that aside and focus on the future. I am on the affirmative side and I believe that the U.S should withdraw from the 1953 mutual Defence treaty because it would strengthen U.S national security efforts and we won’t lose more money in South Korea.
