“Five people lost eyes when police officers shot them with rubber bullets” “the intercept” states. Police abuse is a vital problem in Argentina. This is causing the country to divide all over this major issue. Police are disrespectful to women, police in Argentina have hurt and killed many people, and the police there are also very racist. I believe that in Argentina they need to train their police better and make sure that they are constantly being professional.

First off, as a police officer, their job is to be respectful to everyone. In Argentina, this is quite the opposite. The police in Argentina are insanely disrespectful to everyone, especially women. In “The Washington Post” it states “‘She filed complaints about gender violence against her ex-boyfriend, a police officer’...But on Feb. 8, she was stabbed at least 15 times”. This shows that this police officer has no respect for women whatsoever. And them not doing anything serious about it just made him think that he could go and do it again. In paragraph 2 on this same website it states “Two weeks after Bahillo was killed, Martínez was convicted of “aggravated minor injuries in connection with aggravated threats” against a different ex-girlfriend and sentenced to four years in prison”. Them still not charging him with life in prison, or even the death penalty was insanely selfish.

Additionally, police officers in Argentina hurt, and kill many innocent people who don't deserve it. A video got released of 6 police officers torturing two young men only wearing underwear, and having water poured on them. One of the men had a bag on his head to try and suffocate him. This information is disgusting and makes me think why police officers would ever do such a thing. The narrator of “impunity watch” states “Activists noted that the real tragedy here is that Argentina’s police routinely use torture against crime suspects”. This information shows that this was not just a one-time thing but that this is a regular thing that happens in this country. This is not all, in “the intercept” it states “IN A CRACKDOWN IN ARGENTINA, POLICE SHOT FOR THE HEAD AND BLINDED PROTESTERS WITH RUBBER BULLETS”. This happened to a poor innocent soul that helps support his family by collecting things off the street for example “cardboard boxes, tin cans, and plastic bottles” which is what he was doing on May 3, 2018. He told the police officers that he wasn't there to protest but the police didn't care and still shot him right in the eye.

Lastly, police are very racist to people in Argentina and the worst part about this is it is not only happening in Argentina. One example of a horrible experience a man had with a cop in Argentina is him getting arrested and brutally hurt because of intoxication. The website “International Justice Resource Center” states “The petitioners alleged police officers beat him, and witnesses heard him screaming. See id. at para. 47. Acosta Martínez died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital”. This is very sad comparing this to if a white person was intoxicated they may still have arrested them but we know that that police would not have hurt them. Later on, in the excerpt, it states “The official autopsy blamed his death on alcohol and cocaine”. Using our common senses we know that this was not the case, so the family took it upon themselves to do another autopsy. When they got the results they found out it was not because of alcohol and cocaine instead it was because the police officer abused him. This shows that the police officer knew what he did wrong so he made sure he wouldn't get in trouble, but it majorly backfired on him.

In conclusion, some may say that all police officers are considered noblemen who save lives, catch criminals, and are concerned with the preservation of order. But this picture that we have painted for what a policeman should act like isn't how all policemen act in Argentina. The policemen are disrespectful to women, have hurt and killed many people, and are also very racist. I believe that in Argentina they need to train their police better and make sure that they are constantly being professional.
