Have you ever heard of PCOS? If so, then you may know the struggles of PCOS. I, like many other women, suffer from PCOS. PCOS runs in my family and has affected us for many generations. PCOS is a type of hormonal syndrome found in women. Many women suffer from this condition and it's pretty common. PCOS stands for polycystic ovary syndrome. So, what is PCOS, what are the symptoms of PCOS, and what are the myths of PCOS. Let's get into it.

Let's first start off with, what exactly is PCOS? According to the Mayo Clinic, Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release eggs. The condition is quite common. According to pcossa.org, it affects about 10 million people in the world. There are also many symptoms to prove that you may have PCOS. 

So, what are the symptoms of PCOS? According to womenshealth.gov, one common symptom is women with PCOS may miss periods or have fewer periods. Or, their periods may come every 21 days or more often. Some women with PCOS stop having menstrual periods. This is because, according to pcossa.org, Excess androgens are responsible for many PCOS symptoms including acne, unwanted hair, thinning hair such as male pattern baldness, and irregular periods. The elevated levels of male hormones may result in these physical signs. Womenshealth.gov states that Hirsutism affects up to 70% of women with PCOS. They also state that  Skin tags, which are small excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area, can appear. I suffer from excess body hair, irregular periods, headaches, and skin tags on the neck. There are many different symptoms and causes of PCOS, however, there are many myths about this condition.
