Why is it that American citizens are ok with there being mass incarceration in the United States? Do Americans understand the mistreatment and abuse that goes on inside prisons? These questions are one’s that need to be answered because this has been going on for years.

Prisons are supposed to rehabilitate criminals and make them model citizens but instead it just encourages the act of violence. According to the author on (Psychology today) he says “I have interviewed numerous offenders in different institutions about whether prison truly makes a person worse. Their answers may be surprising! Inmates emphasize that choices are continually made about how time is served. Some aspire to be prison kingpins.” Kingpins which means the head person of that whole prison and or gang. How is it supposed to rehabilitate if prisoners are just accepting their fate and just adapting there plans around their surroundings. This proves or haves you wonder “if someone was being treated right, they would try everything in their power to get out of that situation.”  Why is this acceptable to everyone, there is something terribly wrong with that statement.

Private prisons are a low-down cheap version of a real jail facility. Don’t believe me well according to (WordAtlas) The American Civil Liberties Union has cited a lack of accountability on behalf of private prisons regarding how they run their activities and manage their funds. Failings in accountability lead to poor sanitary and health services.” The American Civil Liberties Union cited a private prison, that’s ridiculous how they got citied for how poorly a private prison is.  Poor sanitary and bad health services, listen to that that’s inhumane! We aren’t giving those humans, those citizens the correct living space to survive. That’s unacceptable and the fact that no one cares about these prisoners is ridiculous.

With private prisons there’s something that’s real important and that is they are confinements run by private individuals through a contractual agreement with the government. This should mean that if anything they should get the most care and money put into as much as possible. As said, it’s a second option for if public prisons are overpopulated so everything should be going smooth with that but unfortunately its not. According to (WordAtlas) For instance, three inmates held in the Kingman Arizona State Prison escaped and carried out several murders, kidnappings, and robberies. Though the three were apprehended, critics raised the question of how secure private prisons are.” This is a red flag people; Prisons aren’t anything but another way for people and the government to get money off other people’s suffering. Now this example given these people need to be watched carefully and deserve prison time but if a private prison which is ran by private individuals didn’t get the job done that means no one is taking their job serious. Are prisons really for rehabilitation or not? If its true purpose was just that, why is it that these things are happening right under our noses.

Prisoners get rapped, beat up, forced into gangs for protection and abused by the prison guards and wardens who are literally supposed to be the protectors. Right here according to (crime investigation) he says Of course, abuse of prison inmates by guards isn’t exactly a new thing. It’s been happening almost as long as jails have existed”. “As long as they existed “yet its purpose is to help inmates. That’s why inmates come out to society more violent because the environment they were in was nothing but violence repeatedly.  Again, in the article (crime investigation) “In 2004, photographs emerged of quite serious torture and prisoner abuse being carried out in Abu Ghraib by the CIA and US Army. Physical abuse, rape, psychological abuse, sodomy and even murder were reported.” By the CIA and the US Army, our own so called “protectors” of the U.S. is torturing and raping prisoners. Is this really a good way to represent the US people think about it? We are literally hurting people innocent or guilty for what? No one see’s or understands how wrong that is?
