"Consistently, on average 700,000 United State individuals end their own lives," (LaMotte).  According to the World Health Organization, “For every 25 suicide attempts, there is one suicide.” Chivalry, an outdated way of life to some, has morals and human values. These values are needed in modern society to help guide it into holding a higher system of belief and expectations.

Forging ahead, for what reason does society require these values? Cambridge Dictionary defines chivalry as, “very polite, honest, and kind behavior, especially by men towards women.” Statically speaking, 1 in 8 women report experiencing sexual harassment in their lifetime, (“Sexual Violence Is Preventable.”). “Around 736 million women, during the course of their lifetimes, are subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or sexual violence from a non-partner,” (“Sexual Violence is Preventable”). This means that millions of men and women have been placed in unimaginable situations involving their nude, open, bodily structure forcefully being exposed. Chivalry was implemented as a form of respect entitled to females. For what reason does society not practice these types of higher value towards females, males, and the manner in which they identify themselves?

Subsequently, the Human Rights Campaign announced the case of Tyrianna Alexander. Alexander was a 28-year-old African American, transgender woman. She was shot on January 6, 2021. She later died.” Also, posted on social media, one friend said, “This lady was nothing but life.” Now, Tyianna Alexander, “this lady,” is forced to spend eternity under six feet of soil, due to another person. Tyianna was randomly attacked and shot for being transgender. Tyianna on no account received basic freedoms or a fulfilling life.  The world will always consist of afflictions and barbaric actions, such as homicide. However, society can still hold the value of honor, kindness, and respect for one another, even when others do not. Though, suicide, sexual assault, and homophobia are not the only afflictions in modern society.

Furthermore, what other afflictions are society confronting? According to the American Society for the Positive Care of Children, (SPCC), “The highest rate of child abuse in children occurs under age one, approximately, 25 per 1,000 children.” Abuse, in any circumstance, is a criminal act. The National Child Maltreatment Center discovered that children who experience child abuse and are neglected, are nine times more likely to become involved in criminal activity. Once, children were perceived as innocent, important descendants who were to be cherished, not abused. Children now are treated as irrelevant, emotional baggage, because of contributing factors, such as individual, relational, community, and societal. (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention”)

Is there any connection between the chivalry code, abuse, and crime? Indeed, crime and abuse are the complete opposite of respect, honesty, and kind behavior. Following the chivalry code could diminish the crime rates and increase safety for the economy over time. Children are the future of society and damaging or altering their lives will cause damaging affliction for the future economy. To create a more preferable salvation for society, children need to be a priority because the future is unpredictable. No one knows what may befall onto the economy if more children become a statistic.

Helen Keller once stated, “When we do the best we can, we never know what miracle is wrought in our life or the life of another.” The proposal is to transform the ‘outdated’ term into human values on the basis of modern society for women, men, and their descendants. This proposal could alter society to a superior, more preferable economy and decrease suicide, sexual assault, sexism, homophobia, abuse towards children, and criminal actions. What could happen in the economy, due to the deficiency of humane values, known as Chivalry?
