The Tomb of The Unkown Soldier is a place in Washington D.C that honors fallen soldiers. I go to this place often to honor my brother who died in the war. The tomb shows all the fallen soldiers that died in war and were never found. I like to go to the Tomb because it reminded me that people should honor their veterans and that people risked their lives for our country.

First, The tomb was located in Washington D.C and was white marble. “The neoclassical, white marble sarcophagus stands atop a hill overlooking Washington, D.C.” (Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). People would go to the tomb to honor the fallen soldiers. The Tomb is always guarded to make sure none damages it. “In 1937, the guards became a 24/7 presence, standing watch over the Unknown Soldier at all times” (Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). To make sure none damages the tomb they have to be careful who they hire to guard it, that’s why they go through several strict procedures to make sure they hire the right people. “Soldiers who volunteer to become Tomb Guards must undergo a strict selection process and intensive training” (Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). That’s why the Tomb is a very important place to me and my family.

Second, On November 11, 1921, I went to the Tomb not knowing what to expect I felt down about what happened to my brother. When I went to the Tomb my life completely changed, I now know and understand how important this was. This was an important thing that happened to me because the creation of the tomb showed how many people risk their lives to serve our country and showed how important it is that we honor our veterans that fought for our freedom. We must honor our veterans because they risk their lives just to protect our country. Even tho I'll never get to see my brother again I understand that he died for the right cause, and I am proud of him for that. Other families have to go through the same thing mine does. But they should be proud of what they did. I hope that people will understand how important it is to honor veterans. If we didn’t have people serving our country then we wouldn’t even be a country. The dedication on November 11, 1921, showed that people cared. “So we give them that salute as many times as we can during the hour or half-hour” (The Tomb of the Unknowns, u.s army).

In Conclusion, It is always important to honor past and current veterans since they protect you, your family, friends, and the country which you live in. They risk their lives just to protect our country so why not honor them? That’s why I always visit my brother’s tomb.
