Reflective Essay Example about Boredom

Boredom. I am certain we have all felt bored before. You could be bored of your routine, activity or even a person and place. That feeling of boredom is exhilarating, bewitching even.

The feeling of wanting to do something but also having no interest in anything at the moment resembles the feeling of overwhelming anxiety. Such as the feeling triggered by driving beside large semi-trucks.

While the idea of boredom may not seem ideal, the results can be rewarding. Well, at least my results typically are. I find it rewarding, because I get this obsessive fixation that overcomes me and cures my boredom,which is very ironic since the boredom caused the creative fixation. Now this is where it gets interesting; the boredom inevitably comes back and this time it's an endless void that sucks me in and captivates me. Boredom becomes this overwhelming sensory experience, of a complete lack of interest, even while performing a task at hand. And yet when I start any stimulating task, I can still feel that boredom creep back, taunting me, teasing me, becoming a part of me, inseparable. 

Boredom is oddly surreal, once it takes hold I do everything I can to stimulate myself. That process of discovering stimulation inevitably makes me lose track of time. Personally, I start to zone into my boredom and lose my sense of time, and that feeling of having no interest starts to act as a drive. A motivational drive. This motivation gets molded into creativity, entertainment, or even physical activity. For example, I enjoy starting a new show and just seeing how long it takes to get bored of it, just to find that small feeling of contentment. 

Boredom captivates me and compels me in a way that I become lost in a creative vortex but not so far that I cannot feel the boredom lurking just beneath the surface.

When I channel my boredom into a creative fixation, that may be painting, graphic design, sketching, etc. It becomes an enchanting escape with lots of vibrant colors. That feeling of excitement is what boredom makes me yearn for. However, this creativity is like a one way seesaw, boredom on the heavy end and creativity on the other,  all moving at the speed of boredom. 

Becoming mesmerized by the feelings of dullness, overwhelming anxiety, captivates me. Boredom is this motivator for inventiveness and yet no matter how many times I get infatuated by boredom, the more I lose my time. I can sit there for hours just being bored, having no perception of the time, thinking that only ten minutes has elapsed, and then 

I realize that while I wrote this essay my boredom was temporarily eradicated.
