Reflective Essay: My Predictions on The Future of Technology

Introduction 

I have got many predictions of what life could be like for us in the next few years and decades. It is quite hard to predict the kind of things that we will have in the future because life and technology are rapidly changing. My main predictions are Robotic Nurses, Earth Defenders and as well as Flying Cars. I will be describing each of these machines in much more detail below.  

Prediction 1: Medical Technology 

Firstly, I am estimating a significant development in medical technology. I am thinking that there could be  robots taking the jobs of nurses. This would be a massive help with the pandemic happening currently, since there is a massive shortage of nurses and doctors in the United Kingdom.  However, I don’t think that they should be the only nurses in hospitals, instead, there should be real life nurses as well as the robotic ones, since robotic nurses cannot help with everything a patient may require. Unfortunately,  there are many disadvantages with this invention. There could be many accidents in the hospital since they may not be very well controlled. It could also finish its energy, run out of charge etc. in a very important situation.  I am estimating that this could happen in about 10-12 years, since they will be quite complex machines. I don’t think that these robots should always be available, but instead only when there is a massive crisis happening in the world, because otherwise, many nurses will be unemployed and run into financial struggles.  

Prediction 2: Astronomy Technology 

Another prediction I am taking is that there will  be a massive growth and evolution in the Astronomical technology. One of the things I believe could happen in the future is we will have earth defenders. Earth defenders are floating objects surrounding the planet Earth that will protect it from anything that may cause destruction and damage to the planet. I think this is very important as there are many scientists warning us about huge asteroids that may be hitting earth within the next couple of years. They are also warning that these asteroids could cause significant damage to the globe. This will give a massive assistance in protecting the earth because I don’t think that people will be able to do anything to stop them. On the other hand, this invention has many down sides. Some of them include the fact that it is not reliable at all and that it could go wrong at any time; at that point we will not be able to stop it and it would have done a lot of irreversible damage. Something we can do to prevent it from harming the Earth, is having someone on the other end having some control over it, meaning that it will not be completely independent. I am taking a guess and saying that this invention could be carried out in around (roughly) 30 years. I am taking this estimation because it is very extreme, complex, design and creation.

Prediction 3:Transportation Technology 

As you may already know, there are currently many driverless cars, taxi's, busses etc. However, have you ever thought that it could go further than that? Well, the answer is yes, it may go a lot further than that in the next few decades. I am expecting that most vehicles will be in the air. I think this because it is a very logical thing, since there is so much traffic, accidents etc. in the modern times. There are a number of positives to this idea. Some of these include the fact that you will be able to arrive at places so much faster that you are able right now. It also prevents a lot of incidents where someone could be hit by a car or even get ran over by one. It has been recorded that there are over 38,000 fatalities each year, in the US alone, caused by car accidents. This number could be massively reduced if this new plan is carried out. Nonetheless, there are many disadvantages to this invention. These include: if you suddenly lose control or there is a technical difficulty, it could either result in serious injury or even a death. If this design really happens in the future, I am estimating that it will happen in around 30-35 years time. There reason I have chosen such a far away date, is due to it being very dangerous and will need several decades to understand as well as manufacture.

Conclusion 

In my opinion, I feel that the estimation in which is most likely to happen, is the first one. I believe that robotic nurses are very likely to actually be manufactured and published because they seem that they will not be as complex as my other two predictions. The other two that I stated above seem to be very extreme and complex, meaning that it is very unlikely to be put forward.
