Black Lives Matter has completely changed the way social movements operate. The organization was founded in 2013 by three African American women Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi and Patrisse Cullors. The movement's founder was strongly motivated and inspired by the illegal killing of an unarmed 17-year-old black teenager. Garza's Facebook status title is "A Love Letter to Black People": We do not need to be killed innocently. We want to like ourselves and fight for a world where black lives are meaningful.
