Autism is a developmental disability that affects one’s speech, behavior, movement, emotions and social skills. Autism is a diagnosis that can not be detected right away since a child does not show any symptoms until they are at least 18 months or 3 years old, usually about 35% detect autism in adolescents and adults.  The importance of autism comes to show the good and bad impact that it can have in one’s life. This topic is important because it will help society understand and evaluate what it means to have autism.

A child who gets diagnosed with Autistic Disorder will begin to show signs of delay in language, social, behavior, and development skills. About 50% of individuals have a normal language milestone which is why they are diagnosed with Asperger Disorder (is a condition with higher functioning), while the other 50% has more of a severe case of Autistic Disorder. Researchers imply that boys have a higher possibility of having autism than the girls. Most people believe that autism can be genetic, since it can be inherited from a family trait. It is important for individuals with autism to be approached with a lot of patience, care and kindness because they all act differently considering how severe their level is when they are interacting with new people, places, music, foods, etc. Many people should take into consideration differentiating a child’s behavior since a child with autism can easily get triggered.

Physicians play an important role in the lives of people with autism because they are able to recognize the symptoms of ASD and that is very helpful to the parents because they are able to understand why their child acts a certain way. The diagnosis can be challenging, as Autistic people can easily act out in place. Physicians are the first people in whom the parents choose to call in order to get help with their child's needs to prevent any harm: physically, mentally, and verbally. Considering that the majority of them can get very violent since they are not capable of controlling their temper. Therefore, few parents are not aware of their child having autism, since they are not able to notice any symptoms such as absent speech, lack of facial expression, unusual hand movement, no interest in playing with toys, walking around in a circle, lack of memory, fear of loud noises and unusual reactions. The reason why most parents are not able to point out that their child has autism is because they view it as a “phase”. That’s when a Primary Health Care worker comes into the picture to perform a screen sharing test to detect the child’s diagnosis. After the results are in, it gets passed down to the team of Healthcare Profession to categorize the child’s diagnosis. After the results are in, it gets passed down to the team of Healthcare Profession to categorize the child’s development disorder as: Autistic Disorder, Asperger Disorder, Rent Disorder, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

In my opinion autism is focused on age and treatment.  There is no age limit for somebody to be diagnosed with autism. Also, someone can be perfectly healthy and still show signs of autism. As it was mentioned there is a 50/50 difference in someone’s diagnosis because someone can either be advanced or delayed. Some of the most effective treatments for autism can be medication (if needed), therapy, and emotional service support. In addition, people who get detected with autism have a tough time processing things since their brains have not properly developed. For example, someone with a fully developed brain can distinguish between the good and bad, while someone with autism cannot since they will just follow anything that catches their attention or will not know what to do.

Many people can have autism with other conditions such as Tuberous Sclerosis, Fragile X Syndrome, Phenylketonuria, and Congenital Infections. The goal is to help families who have a loved one with autism to get the proper help they need, signifying that they will no longer harm themselves and will have an improvement with their speech, social, movement and behavior skills. The information would allow everyone to understand and see the struggles that Autistic people face everyday and why they react in such a compulsive way. Mainly, physicians can better someone’s life by helping them specialize in centers for evaluation, counseling, and intervention.
