Romeo and Juliet: Love is Blind Essay Sample

Can one really be blinded by love? That is the important question that must be asked in regards to Romeo. As we look back on his character, it is easy to see that he has a lot of flaws. His quick and thoughtless choices, his reckless statements, and his odd interactions with people. His character evolved throughout the story from being a silly young man in love with a nun to having a compulsive obsession with Juliet. This can lead one to conclude that Romeo does in fact have a large amount of issues. However, it has become clear throughout the play that the most tragic one, is his lustful desires towards the women he sees. His attraction fluctuates frequently, He does not research the women he wants to date, and he couldn’t even see Juliet's face before he wanted to marry her.

To start things off, Romeo's Attraction to women fluctuates frequently. (  ). At the start of the play, Romeo instantly fell in love with a nun that he had not ever met prior. One can see that this was proven because he continued to talk and obsess about the nun to his friends. As he was still obsessing over the nun he went to the Capulet's party and fell in love with Juliet. Furthermore within seconds of meeting Juliet he was already obsessed with her and fantasizing over her.

Secondly, Romeo was able to completely ignore his surroundings at the Capulet party and still find a way to fall in love with Juliet. (  ). All the guests at the party had on masks which blocked their identity from being seen. (  ). Once he danced with and kissed Juliet he simply fell in love with her on the spot. He did not even have an idea of what she looked like. This is proven by the fact that he did not even know or asked her what her name was beforehand.

To round things off, It is clear that Romeo is too lustful. This can be seen by Romeo’s attraction to women which constantly changed, he never cared to learn anything about the women, he also fell in love too quickly. Romeo's major tragic flaw is he is too lustful. As displayed in my essay it has been shown to put him in troublesome situations and in harm's way.
