How do authors create a creepy/eerie mood for their readers? In "The Cask of Amontillado" Edgar Allan Poe talks about how montero was wanting and got revenge on Fortunato who is a man who insulted him many times in the past.  Secondly, In “The Riveting” by M.L. Jordan the author talks about how Kyra had a bad feeling about going to her grandma's funeral but then later regretted going back there because of the feeling she got and the visit from grandma. Finally in “The Feather Pillow” by Horacio Quiroga, talks about a couple who gets married and feels empty about their relationship, Three months into their marriage Alicia gets sick which made her marriage be put to the test. Overall I feel like authors create an eerie mood by using foreshadowing and imagery throughout the story that makes us readers get the feeling of suspense.

The author uses foreshadowing throughout the stories to create suspense and an eerie mood. For example, Away authors use foreshadowing to make an eerie mood is at the beginning of'' The Riveting” As the drive was making her edgy, she said to herself, “Somethings wrong, turn around, she thought to herself”(Jordan 1). This is interesting because it makes us as readers wonder what may happen to Kyra in the future.  Also as readers, we get terrified that maybe something bad may happen to her. Secondly, another example of foreshadowing is in the “The Cask of Amontillado'' by Edgar Allen Poe is when montero instead of going back due to Fortunato cough, fortunate replied with,” It will not kill me,I shall not die of cough “(Poe  3). This is interesting ing because it makes us as readers wonder what may happen to  Fortunato like if he will die from a cough or something else that might cause his death besides it. This also helps us know what to expect but still makes us want more which comes from the eerie mood we get from reading this.

Another way most authors add suspense and create an eerie mood to most stories is by using imagery. An example of this is in “The Feather Pillow'' by Horacio Quiroga As the servant went to clean out the room she noticed something unusual and said,'' Sir!” she called Jordan in a low voice. “On the pillow there. Stains. They look like blood”(Quiroga 3). This is interesting because it makes us as readers wanting more. After all, it makes us wonder what had happened to her. It also creates mood by the word choice and imagery used as the tone of voice. Another example As the windigo was coming for the girl you could hear,” Towels flapped on the hooks, and the dog crept off, groaning, to the deepest part of the woods”(ERDRICH 3). This is important because it helps imagine what the scene may look like. It also makes the story scary, giving us the imagery of the windigo coming to get the little girl.
