In my opinion i believe that self evolution is always the key to managing the problems within yourself as well as problems with relationships with other people too. If you always take a moment and look at the problem, you have to focus on what you can solve, and what steps you, as a person, can take to learn from and better yourself from those situations and problems. If you do this then it can help you elevate yourself and become more open to new ideas and directions.

I’m not used to having friends. Growing up I was always cordial and friendly in passing with other people but I was never able to build up a good friendship. I could never figure out why and I’d always feel like it was my fault. I’d be confused as to why the girls I thought were my friends never included me in things outside of school and sometimes they’d even talk about me. This put a damper on my self esteem and made it harder for me to actually WANT to have friends and get out of the house. I got used to being “alone” in a sense. I used to believe that not having friends or being close to people was good for me, however I’m only just starting to realize how it negatively affected my mental health.

Friendships that are healthy are important because they can make us more confident and less stressed. Studies have shown us that “those who enjoy close friendships over their teenage years have a lower rate of depression or anxiety later in life.”

This year surprisingly, I branched out and found some real friends! I absolutely love these girls to death. They’ve shown me the real meaning of friendship and I wouldn’t trade them for the world! I’ve started getting out of the house and going places and it feels good to have people to talk to about literally anything I need. They are very supportive and we all push each other to be the best versions of ourselves.

Sometimes  it just takes you encouraging YOURSELF to grow up. I tried pushing myself more and more each time to ease my anxiety and get comfortable with the idea of having friends and going out. The first night I decided to go out i felt as if a panic attack could have swarmed over me in that minute, but while putting on my bath & body works, warm vanilla sugar perfume I seemingly felt my anxiety and fears wash away, because as soon as i walked out the house and saw my best friends, all I felt was pure bliss and euphoria; and all I could think to myself was, “man, I should've gotten some friends sooner.”

It is important to do things that get you out of your comfort zone because if you stay stuck in what you’re used to, you won’t be able to find things that are better and more beneficial to you. Once I realized this I was able to push back all of my anxiety and fears for a moment to try going out more, and i am so glad i did, if it weren’t for that little moment of me saying to myself, “Hailey it’s okay to go out, it’s okay to make new friends, it’s just all scary right now because you’ve never did it before!”, if it weren’t for that i would have missed an opportunity to be friends with 5 amazing girls!

Michelle Obama once said, “For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.” This quote shows a sense of resilience and persistence to never stop becoming the best version of yourself and I agree wholeheartedly.
