Sending people to Mars is foolish. We need to be focused on our Earth before it's too late. Humans were designed to inhabit the Earth, not Mars. Assume yes, going through with this mission would be a historical moment, but will it be worth it? Spending around 100 billion on traveling somewhere, we don't even know is habitable? Shouldn’t we put that 100 billion towards the people who really need it? Like ones who are considered in extreme poverty? Perhaps towards school education? Or what about disaster relief. These are things I believe should be considered before going through with such a big plan.

Scientists report that in the year 2020, around 729 million people were considered in extreme poverty. Putting 100 billion towards people in poverty, may not seem like much considering how many are included in that could but In reality anything is better than nothing. These people are struggling everyday, just to provide for themselves and their families. Shouldn't we be trying to help people like this, Who are being held at such a high responsibility? Why should NASA put forth so much when they don't know if Mars is even habitable for humans. NASA has reported that they have successfully landed probes on the planet, and confirmed that there is ice, this information means that indeed there is water available. But even if there is water, how do we know that there's not some sort of bacteria that could make the water unsafe for humans to digest? Sure, maybe there's a way we could filter out the water but, could that lead to a whole nother project we require more funding for?

Can humans handle the harsh conditions of travel? Source 4 provides us information about how the travelers health will be impacted. It recites “ Lack of gravity may cause the optic nerve to swell. That means astronauts may arrive at Mars frail and with vision problems.” If we did send astronauts out, wouldn't we want to take the time to engineer the safest way for them to arrive? Just with that, NASA would have to put forth more equity than before, adding on to the initial estimate of 100 billion. Would NASA Possibly require their budget to be raised?

As mentioned in the previous paragraphs we need to consider what's the most reasonable thing to do with the provided equity. As of 2020 around 729 million people were considered in extreme poverty. NASA wants to put forth 100 billion towards the project. If you do the math it may not seem like much going to each person, but anything is better than nothing.

To sum up this argumentative piece, I would like the reader to consider, would it make sense to send people to a place we don't even know is habitable?”shouldn’t Earth be put as top priority considering its the only place we know is habitable for human kind? What about equity wise. Shouldn’t we put people in poverty at higher priority? 100 billion dollars being put towards a project wouldn't go to waste if given to the less fortunate, but it may if it is given to people who are fortanue. In conclusion, I think that it's foolish to send people to Mars considering all of Earth's current issues we could try to resolve.
