Should Congress Expand the Supreme Court? I believe that Congress should expand the courts because the supreme court is imbalanced and adding more seats would ensure that there is a more balanced decision, there are no laws that prohibit congress adding additional seats or have seats over nine, and expanding the supreme court would allow for the next step towards future reforms.

First, Adding seats to the Supreme Court is the only way to tackle the imbalances that occur in the system. The Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in the country and it consists of nine justices. Through the years, 19 justices have been appointed and the republicans have appointed 15 of them creating this imbalance that our own selves have now. You may assume that you can just remove the justices as well as appointing new ones but ,the removal of a supreme court justice requires two-thirds of the senate; This would not be as effective since the senate can deny that removal. This is why adding additional seats to the supreme court is our best option.

Next, there are no laws that state that congress cannot add future seats to the supreme court. In the constitution, there isn't anywhere that states that extra seats cannot be added to the constitution so that gives us all the better reason for us to increase the number of seats as the democratic party sees fit. Some people that oppose this approach believe that it shouldn't be changed due to history and that the seats have not been changed since president Ulysses S. Grant. 

The final point is that allowing the expansion of the Supreme court allows for future reforms. If we were to previously expand the supreme court a great deal of recent policies could've been avoided such as the Muslim ban. Also out of all the reforms that the democrats aspire to push, the supreme court is less risky and allows congress to restore democracy.

As stated above, I believe that Congress should expand the Supreme Court seeing that it can tackle the imbalance in the system, there are no laws that prohibit adding new seats, it paves ways for future reforms. I'm curious to hear your opinion. Should Congress Expand the Supreme Court?
