The channel I chose was Shut Up! Cartoons. They produce different cartoon series, including Smosh Babies, God Squad, and Crazy Cabbies. These are all cartoons that it seems like they themselves draw and do the voiceovers. The cartoons look low budget since the drawings that are used are not perfectly animated or drawn. For example, the Crazy Cabbies series looks like someone just fastly drew some people and animated it. The coloring is also not even filled in correctly because it goes outside of the lines and the buildings in the background are not even drawn, they are just colored to make it appear like a building. These episodes are also very short, only about a minute long. They still provide comedic content and are pretty good videos. While there are flaws within the drawing styles and the videos are quite short, I believe that it just makes their page seem more authentic since it is a YouTube channel. What I mean is that it is still YouTube, they are not going to make a lot of money like actual movies do, so they are not going to make top of the line videos. However, they still make very good content. They tend to make videos that young adults or teenagers would watch. They do have adult language and while it is somewhat sensored, I believe that the content is still not age appropriate for children. The series called Smosh Babies has a bit more adult content, even though it is a cartoon about children. They have many parts that make fun of other characters and say some questionable things. For instance, in the first episode a little girl asks whether or not they could kill one of the little boys so they could eat his hair that looked like bread. Many parents would not be happy if something like that were to be said in a child cartoon. Overall, I believe that their page is mainly for young adults and older teenagers that enjoy watching adult cartoons. I like this channel as well. I like the cartoon Smosh Babies. It seems kind of stupid and ridiculus, but overall funny. I believe that is what they are going for, so I will most likely subscribe and keep watching. I might also explore their other series as well because they look quite interesting.

“Blockbuster mentality” is when there is pressure to put out movies that are higher budget and take little to no risks. In other words, lower budget films often use risk taking ideas and shots because they do not have a lot of money for CGI or great camera equipment. This mentality pretty much pressures them into making movies that have already been done and doing it the way the majority of the movie industry does. YouTube does a great job at not going along with this type of thinking. One of the channels, Shut Up! Cartoons, makes cartoons their way and their way only. They do not have to make high quality videos or series in order to get viewers. You do not see a lot of their content on television because they do some risky stuff. For example, they have a whole series about babies, but they act more like adults with their actions and their language. Many people would not like to see this content because they find it repulsive, but the good thing about YouTube is that you can just scroll away from it. You probably will never see it again either because you can choose to dislike that channel or series and move onto another. With movies made in the actual movie industry you do not stop hearing about them for a while. You will see the commercials on television and on social media. With YouTube they mostly rely on their viewers to gain even more by sharing and liking their content. So, they only have to make their subscribers happy and do not have to worry much about what other people say. They may have some trolls talking negatively about them in their comments, but they are going to keep on doing what they are doing as long as it goes along with YouTube’s terms and conditions. They do not have a set of rules and can make any type of video they want. The content on YouTube in general is very different from Hollywood Blockbuster films. Shut Up! Cartoons have very short episodes and do not look high quality. If it was to be a Hollywood Blockbuster they would have to be a lot longer and change what they are doing. Hollywood probably would not like their content that has babies acting more like adults. They would have to conform to the “Blockbuster mentality.” They would not be able to take risks, which defeats the purpose of their whole channel because they produce content that they want and like. I think that this does have implications for media and culture. The mentality that Hollywood cannot take any risks and produces more things that have already been done shows they care more about the profits. However, YouTube has given people the chance to change that by giving them a place where they can produce whatever they want (except whenever it violates their terms and conditions). People can come together and watch what other “normal” people watch and not even have to pay for it. I think that it just goes to show that Hollywood cares more about money than anything. Then, the people who create videos and upload to YouTube care about their work a lot and care about what they actually put out there; they depend on their viewers. YouTube has built a culture that is a safe place for small creators to create whatever they want, and then they give them  the chance to have other people enjoy those creations.
