My name is L. R.. I was born prematurely on August 4, 1992, at Crawford Long Hospital at 9:17 p.m. When I was born, I weighed a pound and a half, and my family was able to hold me in the palms of their hand. I was hospitalized in an incubator for three months because I was born too early. I thank God every day that I am still here. I started school when I was five years old. I went to kindergarten through 4th grade at Shadow rock elementary. During my time at Shadow rock elementary, I received an honor roll award in the 4th grade.
When I was seven years old, I moved in with my grandmother: my grandma, aunt, and cousin tough me the values of keeping God first. While I lived with my grandma, I went to church every Sunday and attended Usher Elementary school. When I graduated from Usher elementary school on May 21, 2004, I was awarded a citizenship award. Then I attended Harper Archer middle school, and there I receive honor roll in the 2004 and 2005 school year and a citizenship award in the 2006-2007 school year. Then I attended Frederick Douglass High school. In the 9th grade, I was inducted into the National Honor Society 2007-2008 school year. In my 10th graded year, I placed into the national beta club and Top ten percent of my class. On May 30, 2011, I graduated high with honors and was inducted into the Career and Technical Education Honor Society with a seal on my diploma.
After I graduated high school, I attended Georgia Piedmont Technical College, where I completed my Associated degree in Computer Programming. During my time at Georgia piedmont, I was inducted in the national honor of leadership and success. I graduated from Georgia Piedmont Technical College in December 2015.
In 2018 I found out I was expecting a baby girl. I am also incredibly thankful for my faith in God with guided me during this time. So, I talked it over with my family, and we came up with a new plan for me to finish college and raise my daughter Grace as a single mom. I realize not every woman in this situation has this much support and encouragement, and I am so grateful for it. In October 2018, I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in Cybersecurity at Strayer University. In spring 2019 at Strayer, I received an honor roll and letter for the honors program.
If selected for this scholarship, I will continue to apply the same diligence to my collegiate studies as I have to this point, making education and service to others my top priority. I will represent your organization well during my years in college and beyond. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
L. R.
